16-18 inch shorty rifles

For me, it’s going to be whatever contour makes the gun balance correctly. May be kind of tough to figure it out exactly if you do not already have most of the parts but there is listed weights for each contour and length. I then add weights to my set up along either the previous barrel or in the barrel inlet if I don’t have the barrel and use that info to order the right one.

What’s the ideal contour for a short barrel? REM Varmint/light Palma?
24" M40 chopped to 16"!

Super fatty is like 1.1" at the shoulder.

Couldn't help myself and rattle canned it after today's range session. Got a 308 load I'd like to take to distance next month.

Depends on the purpose of the rifle. Trying to drop weight for a walking rifle? Go carbon with a light weight chassis.

Wanting short for maneuverability but need weight for stability and not going to walk around with it? Go thick.

I have had carbon, medium palma and a friend has a MTU all 16”. The carbon was for a walking gun, and the 2 heavier contours were built for prarie dog shooting out of trucks and off tripods where the extra weight helps stabilized for shooting the little furry suckers at distance.
