i was referred to the reloading forum from the 1000 yard and beyond to ask the answer to my question

ive found a accuracy node around 2950 fps with the 162 amax
another one at 3050 fps is there one around 3150 and if so has anyone achieved im using rl 17 and did a 500 yard drop test with a hundred yard zero with 36 inches of drop confirming the 3150 fps velocity with jbm ballistics program so i know im getting 100 fps more with rl 17 and could go a bit more if there is a high node that im searching for
thank you in advance
in case your wondering the load it is 66 grains of rl 17 10 thou off the lands ive went to 68 grains where i got high pressure and a sticky bolt ;)so i backed down to 66

Re: 162 amax 7 rem mag high end accuracy node

You might try to find someone with a chronograph to verify velocity. Sometimes back calculating from drop to get muzzle velocity works and sometimes it doesn't work so well.

My experience with RL17 is limited to my 6x47, but the RL17 didn't perform as well for me as the h4350 i was using. Gave great (higher) velocity, but accuracy and extreme spread were't as good as I would have liked. The accuracy load for the RL17 was actually less velocity than what I was using with the 4350.

Now trying to get a 7mm SAUM up and running, so I am interested in your results with the amax and the 7mm RM.

Re: 162 amax 7 rem mag high end accuracy node

just shot a three shot group over my buddies chrono 3160 fps es of 12 thats 66.0 gr of rl-17 windy out and cold 20 degrees....so guess rl 17 isnt that temp sensitive all powders to some degree but 3160 fps is moving a 162 amax out of a 24 inch barrel and thats speed seems to be the next velocity node i had 1.5 inches of vertical at 500 yards

nodes ive found 2950 3050 and now with rl 17 3150 and you could run 67 gr if you wanted its shows flat primers but no sticky bolt and push around 3200 fps

Re: 162 amax 7 rem mag high end accuracy node

good to hear that your drop test was confirmed by the chrono. I am encouraged to hear about the accuracy nodes at 100 fps intervals. Not sure how that will correlate to my 26 in 7 SAUM, but I do have a 7RM setting in the safe. If I don't sell it, I may load up some 162s for it.

Thanks for the range report.
