Any opinions on the bolt on 1911 light rails? I was looking at one built by Caspian. Drilling and tapping of the dust cover is required. I would like a 1911 with an integrated light rail but I cant afford it right now. (And I love the one I allready have) And I need to make sure I can have a light railed gun in IDPA. But I was wondering what you all think about them as far as strengh, usefulness and durability goes. I dont plan on towing my truck with the light rail but I dont want it falling off while shooting either.

Its fugly, but Surefire makes a light adapter that fits over the dust cover of a 5" 1911 and is held in place with a new slide stop lever. No drillin no tapping and its removable. And its really solid no wiggle or vibrations during firing.

I would recommend the SF approach, but if you want a bolt on, I would suggest having someone drill and tap then weld the seam and blend it.

Weld the seam and bend it?? I get the welding part but bend what? If I am welding it anyway is drilling and tapping required?

the drilling and tapping will help the mount resist the forces of recoil that will be exerted on it. Think of it a redundant system. welds can break so the screws keep the mount in place.

Blend. Not bend, it's all cosmetic after drilling and tapping.

Wow, it's too early for me.

For the shortest brief part of a second, I didn't see the frame rail, only the front grip serrations.

I paused and thought to myself, "What a stupid GD place to put a rail, I've NEVER seen a retarded f**ing slide side Picatinny mount as an alternative for railess 1911s..."

And then I realized I was a moron.
