Don't buy your rings, till you have the scope. Custom fluted bolt with custom knob. Jewel trigger. HS precision stock. 5r 308 barrel, and action. Floated, and bedded. My "first" try, at it . Didn't want to break the bank. Found a "deal", on a NF 12-42
, and she "sits" 5/8 in. too high...Fun to start building one, even though it's basically a "parts gun". Another hobby starts.

Price, and me.

I shoot a lot, off the bench. I looked at 5-22s, and they were twice the price> I normally run Stupid little Nikon Buckmasters, in 4-16, but my eyes are getting bad, and I "always wanted a 12x42", just to "see" what they were like. I'm an "old guy", and I'm working on my Bucket list! I've "worked a load", that shoots great. If I can "shoot between the holes", with an over powered scope, that's where I'll go. The thing is a monster{big}, but she's a beauty.

NF 12-42x56 is currently the predominant scope found on the line at F-Class events. With a 20 MOA base, elevation adjustment is plenty to reach 1000 yd with a .308. How much more do you really need?

FWIW - Josh, the 12-42x56 works perfectly in 1.00" rings. The 0.885" (Badger-Med) is normally not tall enough for bell clearance. If you like a little more clearance, 1.125" rings also work well, but you'll probably want a little extra height on your comb with a riser or buttstock cover of some sort. Don't worry, you've got a great scope for for your rifle.

Thanks for that. I DO like the scope. ALOT. She's a beast. Right now, I'm "working with" chin weld, on the stock. I'm a "builder", with a full shop. Setting up, with a nice piece of walnut, for a custom cheek piece, or a "foam , slip on riser", with new rings, is where I'm at so far. Taking my first "baby steps" into this new hobby. Just been shooting "off the rack" guns, so far. Think I'm headed into the worm hole. God save me. I'll probably get to the Custom actions and barrels, next. This is fun. I'm setting the gun up, for a local range, where we shoot at 300 yds, most of the time. The "Kid" I shoot with, got an 8-32 from me, for Xmas. Thought I'd need an "edge", with the 42, as I'm 25 yrs. his senior. Probably not fair, but...
