Rifle Scopes $2,000 scope. WHY?!

I wouldn't spend that much money for a scope from a defunct company but that's just me. Many more options out there.

What rifle is this going on, and what are you going to use it for? If it's for your AK, then I would stick with the $150 scope.

Hey y'all i got a saiga 7.62x39....its a great gun and i love it...UNTIL i group it and see a 4 inch group at 40 yards. YIKES! I need ideas on how to turn this into a 2moa shooter

Thank you. Now i feel better about spending The money. I did get a chance to look through a 2000 dollar scope on a ar10 and it certainly wasn't short of absolutely spectacular and so i decided i would definitely consider putting one on one of my guns. What really attracts me though is being able to hold a zero. I did a couple Google searches and didnt really get very good results so i thought i would ask people who had experience. I guess that was a mistake.

You won't last long here if you take any response personally. Also take what you read with a grain of salt, everyone has something to say about everything. Hell I may think I am right half the time, but usually I am wrong... It is almost like my wife has an infinite amount of screen names on this site...

GL with your search, you do not have to spend 2k to get a good scope either. Just take it slow and research what you can. It has taken me several years to warm up to a mid level scope. (Bushnell XRS)

Another good read, http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-rifle-scopes/55703-optics-selection.html. Note that the OP is from 2010 and it was posted as a sticky because the questions had already been asked many times before. The title of your thread asks "why". The answer is because if you are going to "shoot precision rifle at range", your needs have changed. Six inches at 300 yds. is adequate for a deer size target. It is not adequate for precision rifle if you are shooting with favorable environmentals.

Before you ask a question, read the stickies. If that still leaves you with questions use the search function. If then, you still have a question go ahead and create a post. The more meaningful your question is the more meaningful your responses will be. This place is an unbelievable resource. Take full advantage of it.

Thank you for your advice about the stickies. That was the subject. If you read the question itself it says what are you getting with the extra money. My question has been answered and clasterfack an ak isn't worth a scope like that no matter what you do to it

No its going on my remington 700 long range model

Cool. You'll probably buy and sell multiple scopes before you figure out what works best for you. When the glass becomes a limitation, that's when you'll know you need something better. In my experience, below $800-$1k is going to be a handicap for long range shooting. Right now, I have as much invested in glass as rifles.

A $700 scope like a Bushnell Elite 6500 would be a great scope for hunting and target shooting up to 400 yrds. Set it for +3"/-3" and you can hit any game up to 350yrds or maybe 400 yrds. Optics on that scope is amazing.

The scope im checking out is almost 3 grand. I still gotta do more research on it. So far it seems it excels in nearly every category

There is nothing wrong with any of the old Premier scopes. They are highly coveted and are still covered under their lifetime warranty by the buyout company. I love both of mine and have yet to be as impressed with many of the other top echelon as I have with PR.

You can get some decent values in the $300-600 range before jumping into the car-priced stuff. But I'd hate to look through an $80 scope.

There are probably $180 scopes retailed at $2000 so people think they "must be good", but you'll never find a $2000 scope priced at $180.

Well....what is better.....a $20.00 corner crack ho or a $2000.00 call in escort? If you don't know the answer, then I get your confusion on scopes.

That being said...no one knows until they know. If you get a chance, getting behind a high end scope (just like getting behind a high end ho) will really open yours eyes to why they cost so much.

I really think we should adjust for inflation to give the benefit of the doubt...those $50-$100 scopes in 2014 are bound to cost $60-$110 now.

It looks different but its nice to be back!

I miss the days of idiots like this getting theirs on the original site. The SB was always great too.

+1 Well said!

$2k for a scope seems cheap now in 2017, when the S&Bs and TTs are upwards of $4k...

Hey Y'all. Ive been shootin for many years and have owned many rifle, scope combinations. Ive always paid anywere from 50-180 for my scopes. Havent had the best experience with scopes but ive had some nice ones. My question is when you pay over 1,000 dollars for a scope what are you really getting? Why pay more then my gun for a scope to go ontop of it? Im just a gun nut....not much of a optics expert

So why in the fuck did you re-post you original post from two years ago? Trolling again?

You said you haven't had much luck with optics, ever wonder why?

This is funny, because I used to have the same logic regarding my rifles. I owned a couple Savages and a Remington. They were all accurate, my one .223 Savage was a fucking laser, just ridiculous. Anyhow, I used to believe that there was zero need to spend 3-4k on a custom rifle when the custom rifles wouldn't do anything better than my trusty Savages. Yep, that's right, I believed (and said) that to many people. That is, of course, until I shot a friend's "custom" rifle. I then bit the bullet and purchased my own. Nowadays, I continue to be an elitist prick, snob son of a bitch. Won't touch the shit unless it says, "Surgeon, GAP, Kahles, S&B," etc...of course I am being somewhat facetious.

What's funny is how many of us got pissed at these threads back in the day but here we are re-reading and reviving them 3yrs later. Nostalgia is a cruel bitch.

Meh its like pulling back into port after a long deployment, same arguments, new words. By the way Ima go shoot my new rig stick after I install my Moa/Mil scope and jewell trigger, I have to practice taking game with match bullets.

What pills are you launching? And don't forget to do your part

If you got the cash spend it,you only go around once.Gen2 Razor,Amg,NF F1, are just a few and there are many more.

OP, a Hyundai will still get you from point A to point B.
Same will a Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Porche, Ferrari, Lamborghini.... you know what I mean.

Same thing goes for optics. If you dont care about the features of an optic, id stick to the cheap stuff.

I take it that you've never owned a good scope?

It's kind of like buying a big lifted truck. If you've got little features, you have to make up for it somewhere

I take it that you've never owned a good scope?

Why would you say that?

What I meant by my original post is that some people that dont appreciate good glass and dont care about good glass to just stick to something cheap ie OP. I for one enjoy the finer things in life =).

I truly believe in you get what you pay for.

A Hyundai is a car, but will never perform like a Lamborghini

I guess that I Misunderstood your post to mean the opposite. As to those that think that buying a top quality scope is a way to make up for shortcomings elsewhere, I can only sadly shake my head...trolls...

I've been watching this guy shooting perfect 1.5 moa silhouette at 200, 300, 385, and 500 meters. He is using a stock R700 .223 with a Barska scope. Up against custom 6.5s with high end optics. I think he may actually be using correct shooting fundamentals. So, you can get an inexpensive scope that does work. Good consistent ammo helps as well. Of course, this comp is not running around putting his equipment to the test. But just an example that some folks here would be better off bird watching. I'm so bored with description of glass and shit folks have along with pics of their setup on the dining room table. Somebody else is obviously cleaning the house, lol.

It's funny to see these old topics pop back up. I almost tried to buy a Aimpoint in the Rimfire PX from 2014.

This thread has been entertaining to say the least. If you've never looked thru $3K glass or more expensive, DONT do it! It will just ruin you on using your current stuff that works well enough. Ignorance can be bliss as once you get an expensive scope now you get obsessed and end up reading thru all of the threads about which scope is better and why. It can be done with cheap scopes but its so much more enjoyable to site behind an really nice scope and try to spot the bullet trace as it goes out there.........

You Retards realize this thread was originally posted in 2014 on the old site as a troll post by the O/P. When we got moved back here to the old site, the O/P re-posted the original troll post to fuck again with everyone.

Is it really a repost by the original poster? I've seen many of these old posts since we've moved back. Some great deals in the PX!

It doesn't matter that it is old. What matters is it just goes to show, "Another Day, Another Blowjob." Same ol' shit. Different day.
