2 A10 Warthogs just buzzed my house just West of Indy and they appeared to be carrying ordinance? Appeared to be heading toward the North side of Indy. They were at approx 1000 feet. If they had been headed toward Texas I figure they were headed to AJ"s???

yup, me and the US Army decided to take away the A10 from the AF and make the pilots sergeants so they would get the respect they deserve for the first time in the Careers. we are also defunding the AF by half

He must have been caught buying more ammo.

Oh wait....Maybe the A-10s WERE the "more ammo" he bought.

Back when I was at university, we were really near Griffiss AFB and for some reason the campus seemed to be a favorite place for low-level A10 runs... A couple of times, when they made runs, we were looking out the window of our third (and top) floor apartment that was on kind of the high point of campus... and we were looking DOWN on the warthogs. NOE indeed!

Always cool to see those. But nothing made the place rattle like the Phantoms. Not many of them left c. 1986... last time I saw a flyby. But those things were awesome!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Was buzzed by B52s out in the field maybe 300' up.

F4 phantoms would be glorious!

I could ask the questions as to why they are so many low-level flights around the country.... but it's probably a question that is not to be asked.

Heading to ECU last week for a tournament, and a C-5 was getting all he could at 1000' AGL. Granted, it's not that fast, but as big as those are, my wife thought he was going to land... (I think he was out of Shaw... don't know).

When I see the Warthogs running low.. that's their MO... but when they are doing it a bunch and around different areas, they are training up.

Or it just could be the new Military budget kicking in and getting these drivers some much needed hours.

Regardless, it is cool as shit to watch !

Oh, please! You guys would never figure out how to get them off the ground and wind up using them as tanks.

I remember when the carriers would be in when I was stationed in the PI.
Flight activity would, of course, pick up substantially.
They had the guys that were station dito, but the carriers boys would be running op.
A-4's, F-4's, F-14's, S-3's (sounded like giant vacuum cleaners) and even F-8 crusaders.
The F-4 and F-14 were truly awesome.

They practice nap of the earth over my property. Never hear them until they’re right on you. No wonder the towel heads hate ‘em. Pretty cool to see though.

Rarely see A10s around here, but AH-64s are almost a daily occurrence.

Not sure where you are, but they build them almost in my backyard, and we do our pattern work right over the factory. My CFI examiner is one of the chief test pilots at Boeing, couldn’t ask for a nicer guy. We get to see some really neat toys around here for sure!

it was cool as shit. I have seen them before but I have not seen them with wings full? Maybe they were simunitions for border security?

On another note: it did appear the main gun was a 6.5 Creedmore!!!!! (y)

At NTC Ft Irwin I saw one so close the pilot waved to us, he was inverted. The last time I saw one was at Ft Indiantown Gap. Just finished some land nav and we were sitting on the bleachers over looking the range and they were shooting up some old M113's.

They fly in and out of Ellington field down here, patrolling the ship channel and whatnot. Sometimes I get to see 3-5 of 'em in formation a few hundred feet up. AH-64s sound badass, but not as badass as A10s.

I have to say, of them all, none was more impressive than watching a Spectre gunship (aka "Puff the Magic Dragon") lay down some steel.

I love the warthog, but man the AC-130's would scare the shit out of me if they were coming after me... They're like Armageddon, God's wrath and Thor's hammer; all rolled up in one aircraft.

Yep. I've got a close friend who's father was one of the main engineers on the original Spectre gunship. An impressive design to say the least, that took the C-47 gunship concept to the next level.

I used to have a camp in the ADK just SE of Fort Drum. There was the Number #4 fire tower about 1000yds up the road that I used to regularly go up , and later in life with my Son. You could barely hear the A-10 as it approached at tree top level just a few feet above us . When they passed, it was so close you could see all the rivets, everything hanging on the wings, and feel the wind it created . Seeing my Sons reaction was priceless! Too bad about 15 years ago the state took the tower down.

We used to have A-10s stationed here at Barksdale. A buddy and me used to fish at a lake north of here. We would fish near a bridge crossing the north part of the lake. Occasionally, A-10s would just appear and swoop in right over the tree tops and pass over the bridge. I was assuming they were practicing on the bridge. It was soo cool. I really miss the A-10. I was not a happy camper when they were all transferred out of here. I miss the KC-10s we used to have here too. But I still love to watch the B-52s fly in and out.

Hell yeah! I was putting on to raft the Salt river canyon in AZ a few months ago ( it barely ever runs enough to raft) when two a-10s flew by up the canyon super low. One inverted as he banked through and waved to us. Not sure what they were doing there but I am sure it was badass!! We get blackhawks and chinooks fly the canyon where I live at least weekly and some fast movers will rip through now and then but the a-10s were a treat.

I live in CNY , only 9 miles East of the runways of the old Griffis AFB. B52S, KC10s, and others were a daily show. The best fly over was in "91 when the planes were returning home after there deployment in Desert Storm. 3 B-52s flew in formation down the valley on approach. I remember looking to my left and thinking they were eye level! Never will forget that!

When I was at Bragg I watched a couple mil airshows from green ramp. Besides a f15 trying to set climb records the coolest thing was an f111 going verticle. Fn awsome sight.

Dad was an F4 electrician in the Marines. Has some great stories and pics from VN, they could really take a beating.

30 years ago, IL ANG had F4s before they got F16s. We lived in the airport flight path and used to see them overhead all the time. Loved watching the Phantoms take off on Wednesday nights when I was in CAP. The F16s were cool too, but something about the F4 was magical.

The A10s near Indy most likely came from Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh. I know they live fire there a lot. I was there in April for a Sniper school and they were dropping the lead then. One day we were close enough to feel the rumble when they lit the range. Hearing those rounds hitting the impact area was wild as hell.

As to why they were flying west of Indy, could be something prepping for the 500 or coming NASCAR race. Just an idea.

low level A10' are just about an hourly occurrence at my office. F16's too. Between DM AFB and the Boneyard here every conceivable type of aircraft have come through here at one point or another up to and including AF1 and the space shuttle piggybacking on a 747. Even with my crappy hearing I can tell about nine out of ten times what it is with out looking up.

Last week had an anomaly though. Two F16's took off and went full AB vertical right at the end of the runway and hauled serious but somewhere to the NW. Shook all the buildings like mini quake. That was definitely not normal. Our office has been buzzed by an AF pilot who shall remain nameless as a joke but it was nothing like last week. Nothing on the news but those pilots were not doing that because they were late to dinner.

Slash....I forgot about Atterbury. I have been there for a couple of sniper schools a couple years ago. They were a awesome sight though.

I was going to moon them butt figured they may still have some ordinance???

Things (like alerts and unexpected contacts) happen all the time, and never make the public news. Most people would shit their pants if they knew how many times an armed Alert 5 aircraft was launched from any of the key AFB's that cover the NORAD AOR....

Jefferson Proving Grounds MOA and Range down around Madison, very common for A-10s from Ft Wayne and Battle Creek to use this

Camp Atterbury (watched two Vipers do strafing runs and pull away in burner one night)

Hilltop MOA and Twelve Mile MOAs between Lafayette and Grissom ARB, running 40-50mi north

One of our training camps in Gardez came under fire one night by Taliban with RPGs and PKMs in a nearby multi story apartment building about 200m or so off the south wall. While it was basically a contractor camp with a bunch of Afghan police recruits on it, there was a small Army cadre on board with the proper comm sets. The M240 fire from the guard towers did little more than suppress the shooters lobbing HE into the perimeter (building was concrete), but then came the flight of two A10s out of Bagram who opened up with the 30mm hate. Couple-few gun runs each on the building and it was all over but the clean up.

No Cobra, AH-64, and certainly not anything else fixed wing short of an AC-130 gunship come close to what a flight of Thunderbolts can do.

Scraped. That's a good word for it.

The SJW's scraped it off their shoe so they could afford to buy more votes with Welfare, Bread, Circuses, etc., etc...

Funny how they even managed to object and scrape away less money than women spend yearly on lipstick in their frenzy to buy more votes.

...And in the process, they condemned the rest of us to the consequence of their own incompetence...

Humanity needs to get at least a breeding colony off this rock before it implodes...

But, who am I to complain...?

I am just getting so tired of those SJW's and their pandering.
