Well, after a pretty crappy deer season around here, persistence finally paid off. Saturday morning my uncle and I sat while my cousin took a walk through the quiet, morning woods. I saw a flash in the woods as deer were headed toward the field. This guy and a bit smaller 8 or 10 came out at about 60 yards going full throttle. I decided he was a shooter and fired as he was at 110 yards quartering away. He took three more steps spun and dropped. He had his head up so I reloaded and climbed down as he was facing me and I didn't want to shoot him front on from the stand. When I was about halfway to him, he dropped his head and about 5 yards from him he twitched for the last time. I hit him just ahead of the hind quarter and the bullet went up through and destroyed his lungs.

This picture doesn't really do his rack justice but how can I pass up the one with my girl looking so happy too. He goes about 120 with great mass and very lackluster tines. he dressed at 175 which is huge for this late in the season. He appears to be at least 3.5 years old - will be interesting to age him later. I am tickled as it has been 7 years since I have had an opportunity at a whitetail this good.
