Hunting & Fishing 2019 Hunting Thread - Post Your Pictures!

Cow Elk hunt in Arizona a couple weeks ago. With all the hunting pressure, I was not optimistic on our chances. Third day we spotted a herd off in the distance and were able to close on them despite the open terrain. We ended up dropping 3 that morning.
420 yard shot(s). First one I either pulled, or the cow moved as I shot and hit her in the rear legs, second shot through the heart.

I apologize for the blurry picture, I was alone, iPhone camera timer surprised me, then my phone died.

475 yards with the Seekins PH1 6cm. High shoulder shot dropped him in his tracks.

It's been a pretty good elk year so far. I shot the bigger bull 3 weeks or so ago on a draw tag and the dink 5 point on my non-resident tag a little over a week ago. I also shot the fox when I caught him coming back for more meat after stealing the tenderloins overnight. The big bull was 200yds for the first shot and 300 for the second with my carbon barreled 300wm. The small bull was 626yds with my suppressed 300wsm. Just above the tip of the tree in the zoomed in picture is where the dink bull died and the picture looking up was the absolutely crappy pack out ahead of us. 1000+yds down a 45+ degree slope.

I've helped two buddies get a couple other elk and we are still trying to get a couple more before the end of the season Friday.

Had a decent day. I stuck to the old saying, “never pass up on the first day, what you’d be happy to have on the last.” Not my biggest, but still made me smile. 30-378, 165gr nosler, 200yds. Dropped in his tracks.

Nice young bull.
I hunt for the meat.
690 yard shot DRT
Savage 110 chambered in 6.5-284
Berger 140 vld-h
My boys and I watched this spike and a 5 point most of the day.
They were in a herd of about 10 cows.
Hoping we'd see a 'wall hanger' for one of my sons. It didn't happen so I took the spike.

That thing is going to be delicious! I mostly hunt elk with my bow, but I do try and get a cow for the freezer with my rifle. Meat hunting for cows is actually a lot more difficult than people think, I always try to find a "medium sized" one that looks fairly young. One that is bigger than a yearling, but not a 12 year old matriarch that has big ol noggin and has a sway back like an old horse. That is the nice thing about bulls, you can tell the young ones from the old ones a lot easier!

Shot this one last week. 30 yds with bow. A little smaller than I thought but I was happy with my shot.

I've had a pretty crappy season so far with nothing but tiny bucks, finally saw one good doe and was able to put meat on the ground.

My little sister borrowed my muzzleloader for a hunt in ml season and got her first buck.

My son finally got his first deer, he was shooting a Ruger American with a YHM resonator.
Caliber 223, I actually didn't had any hunting ammo but the Hornady 68grain hpbt worked great, it made it 10 feet from where it was shot.

Yes it's small, actually typical size for my area, regardless he will taste great.

And then....opening day of deer season (yesterday), I glassed up a good buck @ 454 yards 90 minutes into the 10 day season. So she dumped him. Hard to pass a deer like this up in hopes of finding a bigger one in the next 9.5 days. She filled the last tag of the year with a bang....and a big taxidermy bill!

As a MT resident, and lifelong mule deer aficionado, congratulations on a stellar deer. Probably not many people realize how tremendous of an accomplishment that is. I am not a real big fan of the way FWP manages the deer herd, and to tag a buck like that in the way you did it is equivalent to shooting a Yeti or a Unicorn. Awesome buck.

Agreed, mt fwp has allowed Montana to be hammered by predators and then allowed to many doe/cow harvests on top of that. Thank you, hundreds of hours and many rough miles went into finding this guy.

Well this is awkward......I am sitting here eating Elk Bratwurst for dinner.....from this very animal.

PS. Cooked up the Backstraps from her the other day for the wife and some guests.....it was a huge success! Even got permission in writing that I can go hunting for elk again next year!!
