So I'm helping a hunting buddy scope his custom 6.5PRC. I had him buy a vortex razor lht 3-15 sfp. To me it's a perfect hunting scope for its light weight and other features. The glass is very nice for the price point and easy for me to pick up the floating dot. Butttt it's not up to me or my eyes. He has the new tract Toric 5-30 ffp on his MPA 6.5 cm and likes the extra mag and the reticle thickness when zoomed in. He had detached retina surgery back in feb and it didn't heal correctly and has a really hard time focusing the center of the reticle.

His 6.5 PRC is a lightweight build, 6.2lbs without scope. The budget is $1000-2500. For him it's about being able to focus the center of the reticle and have the clearest target picture. Weight isnt a huge issue since he understands he needs a heavier scope to get what he wants/needs.

I put this rifle together thinking of what would fit me and I feel bad that the scope doesn't work for him. What would you guys buy or suggest. Thanks for the help!!

I'd like to stay under 56mm. But we could take off the scope on his 6.5cm and see if that works... but let's spend some money, way more fun!!

If he has issues focusing due to a medical condition then your best off to test scopes before you buy. Hence us suggesting you buy what works for him already

Otherwise I recommend NF ATACR 5-25 or Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29.

But again he should get behind before buying

I would have thought for that application you want a second focal plane scope. You often want to at low magnification for hunting. You can't see the cross hairs on a FFP easily at low magnification.

Another vote for the Vortex AMG, 30 oz and 6 -24x. Plus it’s illuminated for those low light hunting situations.

The 3.6-18 Leopold MK5 with TMR is fairly thick compared up a lot of what is out there now. The older LRHS with the G2H and the SWFA 5-20 have thicker lines as well. The G3 illuminated might work for him. The non-illumined G3 has a thinner center. You could look at the XRSII or DMRII pro.

I forgot about the bushnell LRHS. The reticle is thicker and the" donut of death" would make it easier for quick close shots. I have one on my 6cm that I'll have him try.
