Re: .223 remy

Hi potter, not sure if you have the 26" bbl or the 20"bbl. My 26" varmint likes 55 grain factory ammo, and I reload for hunting 55gr Sierra spritzers (product number 1360) over 25gr of Benchmark. I also use the same load for a Remington 55gr fmj over 25 BM for plinking. For Target the 52gr SMK over 25.5 BM or 27 Varget.

Welcome

Right hand is for squeezing the trigger and manipulating the bolt, while the left hand is for holding the forearm or support under the buttstock. That is unless you are "wrong handed", reverse procedure. Same with all rifles, not just the 700.

Re: .223 remy

As the distance increases the effects of wind and MV consistency are going to become more apparent. Those are what will determine your max effective range with that ammo on paper since they determine your ability to hait a certain sized target. The difference in twist rate between your rifle and your mate's rifle isn't going to make a difference with 55gn bullets. The difference is that your rifle probably will not be able to stabilize bullets much heavier than that. Heavier bullets can have a better ballistic coefficient and thus resist wind better, increasing the effective range of a particular cartridge.

Your rifle *should* be able to stabilize the 53gn Hornady V-Max. If so, that bullet will give you the longest effective range. It not only has the highest ballistic coefficient of any .224 varmint bullet, it is also significantly better than any of the target bullets in that weight range. In addition, it's relatively light weight means that you can get better velocity out of it as well. The double whammy when it comes to bucking the wind and increasing range.

Re: .223 remy

thanks for that info mate well in aberdeen where i stay it is always windy here starts at 5-10mph all the time very very seldum is it less or nill at this point i usualy do retical or zero work to make sure the rifle is spot on. im used to lower cal rifles .22 rimfire and a few years back was .22 air rifles so i know what its like to shoot in wind trust me its a nightmare ha ha but ye i just want to learn alot more about wind and full bore stats before i get well into my .223 i have the gun and 55gr soft point norma and PPU rounds iv got a few other weights and makes to try over this year and once i find a very good round that works well with my rifle i hope to stick with it till i can start reloading my own rounds to get costs down

thanks
