Im working up a load for my Sako 260, which has a factory 24" barrel. Im using Lapua 243 brass, fed 210M's, Lapua 139 Scenars, and H4350.
Chronograph used is a CED Melinuim 2.
Range conditions, 65deg, 70% humidity, 1500' elevation
Velocities are a five round average.

So, here is the first round.
42.0gr = 2583fps
42.5gr = 2640fps
43.0gr = 2669fps
43.5gr = 2698fps
44.0gr = 2722fps

Does this seem slow to anyone? I was expecting to be much faster with these loads. I dont see how a barrel that is 2" longer would prodce velocities 200fps faster than what I got today.
I was hoping to get 2750-2800fps, Im already 2gr over max and coming up short. Pressure signs look good, no flat primers yet.
Any ideas?

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

I would say those are really low based on the numbers I have been seeing on here. Most people don't find it very hard to get 2800+. Maybe you got a really slow lot of H4350?

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

Seems a bit slow. I run 43.2gr with 139's out a 25" Brux and was averaging 2860fps (although, this was at 3000ft alt.). Chrono off?

Its a 1 in 8" twist rate, sorry for leaving that out.

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

My 24" 8.5 twist Krieger gets 2909 fps with 43.5 of 4350. Hot lot of powder makes the scenars go stupid fast and some pressure signs. Im sure I could push another .5g. Using Norma brass and br2 primers. .030 off the lands. Maybe you have a tard lot of h4350? I would rather have 4831SC right now if I had the choice. I think it is more accurate... It least in my gun. Apparently h4350 varies from lot to lot pretty bad and worse than most others. I wish it was consistent like RL15.

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

Switch to CCI primers and find out where the gun likes to shoot again, then worry about speed

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

im running 2860(i i remember correct out of a 26inch 1-8 shelin with 140 amax and 43.5gr of h4350 @ 600ft elevation

ALSO, did make sure to tighten each sensor to the mounting bar, I made this mistake on my first outting with my CED M2, and my speeds were down.

Everything was tight on the chrony, also had the sky screens on. I am going to try a friends chrony to eliminate that possibility. I also might try a differnt lot of H4350.

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

Remington 700 trued, Krieger barrel @26" 42.5 H4350 FGM primer 139 Scenar never cronoed it but according to drop with JBM ballistics near 2870.Another guy had the same setup and it was chronoed at 2860. Just a word of warning with Lapua brass in MY gun 42.5 is max so be careful going on up.

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

2900fps 28in 1-8.5 Krieger 140g Vld 44.5g H-4350 rem brass 210m 2.9

work up to that

Re: 24" 260rem, does this seem slow???

I think I'm in the same boat as you -- not seeing the velocity with an initial H4350 load work up.

Currently:
43.5 gr. H4350, CCI BR2, 142 gr. SMKs
AIAW with Krieger 26" barrel (+ TBAC 30P can)
To be honest, I don't remember if I have 1 in 8" or 8.5" -- pretty embarrassing.

Chrono'd at 7975' Alt, DensAlt: 9060'
Str #1: Avg - 2770.6, SD: 15.1, 5 shots, 100 yd group of .4"
Str #2: Avg - 2775.8, SD: 3.5, 5 shots, 100 yd group of .46"
Str #3: Avg - 2772.6, SD: 9.7, 6 shots, 100 yd gruop of .6"

No pressure signs so I'm going to push it up to at least get 2800fps. A little disappointing in the vel department. I am going to work on a 4831sg load too. I just bought a couple of lbs of each for load development. I like to do that before buying 8lbs kegs. I may have some from the same slow lot as you.
