.243 Win

Re: .243 Win

Im currently doing a load work up for 107 mk, berger 115's and 100 nos. partitions. ive got a 1/8 twist remington 700 with 26in straight taiper hart barrel. I'll post my results, i just got done with barrel break in and im just waiting for the weather to clear

Re: .243 Win

I'm stumped with these 90's and my 1:10 twist. While I see Stealff and Grumulkin are having great results with 85 and 87's with that twist, my 90's really suck. I mean all over the paper, as it I was throwing rocks at the target.

I've been up and down the load range, and the best was .5 grains from published max, for IMR 4064. Pardon my reluctance to OCW above published max. Clearly, no one else is having this issue, though I note that most of you have faster twist rates.

Any suggestions?

Re: .243 Win

My 1/10 loves the 85's and 95's. I'm having excellent results with IMR 4831 and what little testing I've done with Varget it shows high promise. I'm getting ready to run some test with RL-17 with these bullets to see if I can keep the accuracy and pick up some speed. I'm running around 3200fps with the 85's and 44.3 of the IMR and a little over with 39 of Varget. I'm getting right at 2900 fps with 42 of IMR and 95 Berger VLD hunting and well under 1/2" accuracy with all three loads with closer to 1/4".

Re: .243 Win

Well, I have 34 of these 90's left, and the only choices I have are to work up over published max (OCW style)and see what happens, throw them away,or cut them off, carefully drill though the base and use them for bass fishing.

The Berger VLD's can't be any longer than thse Barnes @ 1.063". How far off the lands are you seating the 87's? I'm about .015. If I go to .010 and up the charge, what may I expect? I'm remembering, change one thing at a time. As I recall from someplace, there's a technique to loading VLD's, is it not?

Re: .243 Win

Finally tried a Sierra 60 gr. pill. 41.5-42 gr. IMR-4064
Mod. 70 Win, 1:10 twist.2.735 OAL, 1/2 " easy. Trying a Barnes 75 gr. hp with 39.5.

Looks like .203 off the lands. for the 60.

Re: .243 Win

GB493 90gr Lapua Scenar with 44.2gr. of VV160 @ 975m/s COL 2.810 in lands, Lapua brass, CCI - stable 0.3'moa@100m results on my sps 9.125 twist. Next sweet speed is 1015m/s with 45.7 of VV160 but very depends on seating/brass preparation.
Berger 95's should be also interesting on this twist, but difficult to get in my country.
all attempts with 105's still unsuccessful for me...
