A coworker found an old original barreled Ruger Model 1 and wants to put it in an original stock and load for it. I did a weak search here on SH and balked at a general search ‘cause, well, lazy. Anyone here have decent heavy bullet proven loads for this one?

100 gr Nosler and R22 shoots great out of my rifle but i dont know if thats heavy enough for you. Im away from the house but i think its 58 gr which is on the very warm side. Nos BT going 3400 fps will put the smack down on a white tail.

First you need to determine what you want to do with the rifle then you can select the correct bullet for your needs.
If I was to hunt say deer with it I would use a 117 or 120 gr bullet provided you have fast enough twist.

I was running a old tang M77 varmint 25-06 using 53.7 gr H4350 100 gr sierra match king at 3300 fps.
Needles to say start way lower an work up.

I agree that purpose and twist drives the bullet choice. This is not my barreled action unfortunately. I was merely curious about what are some decent loads and couldn’t find anything on here using the internal search. Were it for me, I would have searched the net harder and would already know purpose and twist. I imagine that it shouldn’t be too hard to find the normal twist rate of an early Ruger no 1 in .25-06.

I bought my Rem 700 used. The guy had it done with a 12 twist for whatever reason. 100 gr is as big as I can go. Shoots in the .5” range, but go to a bigger bullet or a vld and I instantly get shotgun pattern groups. this rifle with a fast twist barrel would be very interesting with those new Black Jack 131s. The pic is a 200 yard group that my wife shot the first time she ever shot a precision type rifle. 4F3C389C-720F-4B7B-B107-650C26E3A8A8.jpeg
