260 and 130gr bullets?

Been looking over data in the 'Reloading Depot', and it seems like most prefer 139-142gr bullets in their 260s...presumably for their higher BC. I've had good luck with 123gr A-Max and have some 123gr Scenars to try, but thinking about trying a heavier bullet to see how they perform.

I'm curious if anybody prefers using 130gr bullets like the Berger VLD, JLK or Norma Golden in their 260s, and if so, why.

Also curious to see what kind of velocities folks are seeing; seems like 2800-2850 is typical from 26" barrels, and I've seen 3000-3050fps with the 123s, so is 2900-2950fps logical with 130s?

How long is the barrel now?

Likely it's going to be a reasonable request of the rifle unless you have a stubby barrel.

I shoot 130 grain AccuBonds for my .260 hunting loads. I get to 2800fps out of my 22.5" factory(SAKO) barrel using H4350, with constitant accuracy that makes me smile

2900's with 130's and a 26" barrel is realistic. I used to get 2980 with 130's in my 6.5x47Lapua w/26" bbl.

2850 from my 24" Browning Low Wall with 130s has been no problem using H4831. Accuracy and effectiveness on critters has been very good too.

Yes. I am running the 130 hunting Berger VLD's in my 260 at 2950 fps in a 28" barrel. They shoot freakin' awesome! I tip my bullets to get a little more BC. I only give up about 4" more wind at 1K over my 140 VLD's, but the 130's are much flatter. I will be running these from now on.

Another fan of the 130 JLK here. Running them at 2940 from my 6.5x47L 26" Hart barrel. A buddy of mine runs them at 3000 from his 260Rem 28" Brux. H4350.

I get 2850fps from my 21" AW, and 2950fps from my 24" Rock. Same load in both rifles works well, Berger 130gr VLDs, Target

They are working out well in my 6.5CM too.

For hunting I'm using the 6.5x47Lapua with Hornady 129 SST, running 2900 out of my 21" 3 groove 8 twist Lilja, using 37 grains of R-15 and CCI 450's.

We only shoot the 130 Berger and JLK out of our 6.5x47s and consistently get 2950-3000fps out of 26" barrels using H4350.

130 berger vld @ 2990 across oehler, average of 10 shots. The barrel is 22.5" bartlein with bo fte brake. The last time I ran these across the chrono 13 es and 7 sd

Is 3000 fps a hot load for the 6.5x47L?

It's starting to get there. Every rifle is a little different. One thing about the 6.5x47L is that somewhere in the 2980-3010 fps range tends to be the higher node sweet spot for most rifles in this chambering.

Once you go above about 3010 or so accuracy begins to degrade.

I have had mine up there. 42.3+ grains of H4350 + 26" 8twist barrel gets you there. As mentioned, its starting to get hot. I would recommend working that up - don't start at 42.3

3k is about the limit of what we've found to be reliable under all conditions and still offer decent brass life.

I have shot the 130s JLKs but found the bullet length is not consistant. Went to the 123 and haven't looked back.

You mean inconsistent within the same lot or from one lot to another?

When I spoke to Swampy about his 6.5mm's he did say that he has gone to a new shorter jacket but that everything else was the same. So you might be comparing a older lot with the longer jackets to a new lot with the shorter jacket.

The JLKs that I have gotten and measured within the same lot have been the most consistent bullets I have measured. Better than Berger, Sierra, and Hornady (never used Lapua). Same thing with the weight.

Yes James you are correct (inconsistent) with the length of the bullet. The older vs newer. I used to shoot the older ones and measure out to 1.420. They shot extremely good but the next order the measured something like 1.367.

The lapuas 123 measure from lot to lot very close. I didn't want to screw around with the differences. At that time he was using berger jackets he said. I feel the 123 will preform close to the 130s. Shoot both in real life and post back on experience. I think you will find not much difference if any.
