My new surgeon has a .295 neck. If I want to run 260 lapua brass, am I going to have to turn down the necks initially? I've Heard you really need a .297 to run the lapua without turning. Never turned necks before.

Most likely. My loaded 260 rounds using Lapua mike .2935-.2945. Not even room for a speck of grit. Too bad because Lapua is usually so consistent that neck turning is not helpful except for the benchrest crowd. My chamber was cut using a PTG Lapua reamer that is .298. It groups great. My gunsmith (Jon Beanland) did not recommend going tighter on the neck when using Lapua brass. I am satisfied that he knows what he is talking about.

Measured neck wall thickness on 200 new Lapua 260 Rem cases. Was very surprised to find as much as 0.002" difference on the same case. Lapua is very good, but not perfect. And that is reason enough to neck turn.
