I’m getting ready to chamber a couple of barrels and I’m looking at the .260 Rem SAMMI and the .260 Rem Tactical reamers from PTG.
Both barrels are 1-8 twist Krieger’s and we plan on shooting 139 Scenar’s from AW mag’s.
My question is would I be better off with the shorter throat of the SAAMI reamer for longer barrel life or use the tactical reamer and set back the barrel later if needed?
Are there any other benefits to the tactical that I’m missing or should I be looking at a different reamer altogether?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Re: .260 Remington Reamer?

I have three 260 reamers. All have .295" necks but the free bore is different. The .100" free bore reamer is one of my all time favorite reamers and it came from PTG. Dave has the print to it on file. Call and order the .100" free bore Louisiana Precision 260 Reamer. You'll really like it.

Free bore for my 260 reamers are as follows;

.060" (PTG)
.090" (JGS)
.100" (PTG)

The .090" and .100" are same/same. If using VLDs, they will need to be run in either an AW magazine or a modified AI magazine.

For the 139 Scenars, either reamer will work great and you can feed from a standard AI magazine and touch the lands.

Best I can tell, the VLDs need a reamer with about .040" free bore in order to touch the lands and feed from an AI. This is one reason why I changed my signature receiver to have the AW magazine cut over the standard cut and to run the AW magazines with it. Any reamer with .080" to .100" free bore will work great for you. If feeding from an AW magazine you'll be able to run Tangent or Secant ogive bullets and hit the lands with either. It's a win/win.

Thank you William, you’re a true gentleman.

Dave told me that the last time I spoke of them and my 260 reamers, orders increased for a few days for 260 reamers based off my print. I was just giving them a heads up this time, hope it helped you.

Re: .260 Remington Reamer?

I got a 260 reamer from PTG back in june. Just told him what my intentions were and let dave handle it. Havent built the gun yet but I was looking at the print. When talking freebore that is the part of the chamber that is bore diameter with no taper before the throat, correct? On the print it is labeled lead. Is the area where the neck tapers into the lead included with the freebore measurement?

thanks
