I am currently shooting the 162 grain AMAX with good results loading them to mag length in a short action. The only problem is I can find a place to buy the AMAX bullets in 500 or 1000 quantities.

Another thing that I was wondering was if anyone has tried the 180 grain SMK, and how did you like them? are they as tolerable to jumping like the AMAX, or am I going to have the chase the lands like with the Bergers to get good accuracy. The bullet looks promising with a BC of .660 and can get them in larger quantities as to keep the lot number the same?

Thanks for the info.

Walter

Re: 284 bullet question

The smk should be fairly tolerant of a reasonable jump distance. I use the 180 in a 7 RM with good results. It is fairly long however and being that you are using a SA the bullet will take up a lot of room in the case. The 175 smk may be a better choice in a SA but I have not actually measured it myself. If the amax is doing what you want, why change? The Litz numbers on JBM have the amax and 175 smk, at 2950 and 2800 respectively, almost identical in elevation and windage.

Have you tryed 139 SST they are very accurate and a great hunting bullet to. My 284 & 280AI love them. and Deer hate them.

Re: 284 bullet question

No the only thing that I have tried is the AMAX and it did well enough that I didn't try anything else. The only reason that I was going to change was because I can only order the AMAX in 100 counts and want to buy more bullets at a time and I really want to get the same lot number when I order 1000 rounds.

Thanks for all the info
