Maybe not VS related, but Snipers have to be prepared for close quarter's combat. Anyone can shoot a 3 gun match with fancy pistols and AR's, I shot last Sundays match with a Krag and USGI 1911.

Maybe not as fast, but it was as accurate as any out there. For the rifle phase, they had two little pop up targets about 35 yards away. You were suppose to fire six shots at each. No biggy, I can get 6 rounds in the Krag. My first round (220 gr bullets at 2000 fps) broke the target, Second round flipped the second target over. I looked up at the RO and he says keep shooting at what's left, so I rolled the target up the hill.

First picture is firing the Krag

Second is loading for the second target, this required loading one round in the chamber and dumping the next five in the hopper.

The next photo is firing the 1911 at the pistol targets.

The next stage required turning around and engaging two small balloons at close range. The RO told me if I could reach them I could use the Krag's bayonet to save a reload. I did. I'll get those pictures posted after I get them loaded.

Stage II

Engaging balloons:

No time to remove the bayonet, making it shoot a bit low but not too bad.

Loading from the belt:

Hard act to follow, I think I'll shoot my next 3-gun match with a Mosin and Nagant revolver.

Nice work! Not your typical 3-gun equipment, but still getting it done right! Makes me want to try one of our 3-gun matches with my bolt gun instead of an AR, would probably do alright until I got to a stage that required a 30 round mag.

Is this the range up in the canyon? Looks like it. I was there with my dad when he shot practical pistol regionals there 30 years ago. For some reason I thought it wasn't there any more.

Seriously, where is a good place to get one? Also, pricing? Thanks,

GunBroker has some nice ones every once and a while. I got mine off of the CMP Forums. I posted what I wanted and a couple of weeks later a guy emailed me. The only thing was he did not have an original sling like I wanted, but all the metal and wood is original. It shoots amazing. Pretty accurate since the distance from the front to the rear sight it pretty long. Very mild recoil, and will shoot any bullet you throw at it if you are a reloader.

Good to know. Any suggested reloads? ie powder/bullet combos.

Depends on whether you get a Norwegian Krag in 6.5x55 or a US Krag in 30-40. 6.5 Krag use 4350, 4831, 4895, or Varget with 139 or 140gr bullet. 30-40 Krag use all the same as you would for 30-06 or 308. Just start low and work up. Remember the weak point of the Krag is it's single lug bolt. Make sure that the starting and max load numbers you use are for the Krag.
