Having my .17 Fireball redone. Going to rebore the .17 Shilen Select Match to 300 BLK(1:8 twist, right?). If I understand correctly, my existing action will work without modification. But, if I want to use the steel floorplate all I have to do is change the follower to .223 or the like? Just want to be certain, will start the "re"-build next week. Thanks for any feedback.

Yes, for those big, heavy, slow bullets you'll want a 1:8 twist. I'm not sure if you'll need to change the follower as I've never messed around with a .17, see if the current one works before swapping it out. If you do need to change it then yes, the .223 is the way to go. You might also consider going the DBM route.

My build was done on a Howa 223 action and it turned out VERY nice. Still a few things to finish (CDI DBM) but that will have to wait for a few months. I'll shoot it for the first time on Monday.

Yes the Fireball is a different follower, mag and floorplate.

I did the same thing and the cheapest way is to buy a complete bottom metal of the classifieds here.

Also if you are going for only subsonic use then a 1:7 or if both supersonic and sub then 1:8.
