300 PRC VS 28 Nosler?

I wonder how Much more life you can get with a 28 nosler if you use a gain twist barrel
Twist for the most part has nothing to do with barrel life in my opinion.

28 Nosler is a barrel burner period. It is what it is. That fact alone and other data I've seen from bullet and ammo makers... as well as the 26 Nosler is even worse. I've got pictures of a 26 Nosler with a 110 rounds on it and it looks like a 300WM at 800/1000 rounds.

If it was strictly a hunting rifle and not getting a lot of rounds on it/range time...then maybe but if your going to shoot it on a regular basis...there are better options then the 28 Nosler.

I was finally was able to stretch out the 300 Win Mag over the weekend. I have to say I'm very pleased with the results. This was also the first time I didn't have to do a tweaking to the Kestrel ballistic calc. The calculated elevation was dead on at 750, 1250 and 1740 yards. I settled on H1000, 230 SMK at 2.870" (.030" jump), and 215m's. Getting just over 2900 FPS (via Labradar) with single digit SD and no pressure signs.
How is that bc on the 230 smk? I have found there higher than what is on box

I’m a 7mm over 30cal guy myself., but given those 2 options right now, I’d go with the 300 PRC. Hornady does a great job pushing out components and ammo for their cartridges. And the barre life in the 28N is kind of a bummer

The 7mm bullets (195’s. 180’s) are hard to beat in SD / BC. You won’t match them Until You get into the heavier 30 cal’s but with a lot more recoil.

Even at the 7mm short mag Level the ballistics are quite impressive with decent barrel life and mild recoil.
190’s Berger’s at 2850-2880 got my my first hits at 2 miles.

I hear that. In the middle of a 7 Sherman Max build right now. Looking forward to getting this one together. 195’s @ 3k or 180’s @ 3100+. Gonna be a fun rifle

Decided on a 7 Sherman Short
My daughters elk rifle and the 7 Max for mine.

those velocities are with n570 and not great barrel Life. I’ll be happy with 180’s at 3k and decent barrel Life (1500-ish)

I tried that 7 max and didn't see the numbers but didn't use n-570. I honestly matched the 7 saum barrel I had. The 7 saum had 26 inch barrel the 7 max 28 inch. Both were 2880 with no pressure 183 smk. I couldn't get any more from max with out heavy bolt lift. Imr 7977. I hope you have better luck keep posted

Yeah that’s pretty slow.
I'm not gonna mess with the n570, which is what’s getting those velocities. Pretty harsh on barrels. Gonna give H1000 a shot. Maybe 8133. Be happy if I could get “close” to 3k with 180’s in a 26” proof. We’ll see how it turns out tho.

I had imr 7977 and imr 8133. I love imr 8133 in my 7mm-300 win mag great results. I could of just been very unlucky haha I had 28 inch brux barrel. It hammered just slow I went 5 for 10 at 1 mile on man size gong with it testing loads.

I use 8133 in my 6.5 max because it doesn't blow up the ton of 145 match burners I have. N570 made 'em go poof. Probably the ticket for 156's though.

My first two 7mm barrels were brux, I was very happy with them.
I got what seems to be normal 7 saum velocities out of both.

If you read around lots of people aren’t getting the commonly suggested speeds with the Sherman cartridge.
That what steered me to standard Saum.
The 7 max with it’s extra powder capacity should work better with H1000, retumbo, 7977, 8133 and N170.

I ran imr 8133 and imr 7977 183 smk and 197 smk. I was pretty slow but yeah a lot of people don't get what there suppose to and some do. Not sure why that happens it's a great looking case too.
