I just purchased a NIB 700P in 300 RUM. I want to shoot the heaviest bullets possible. I know that 250gr and above need 1in9 or faster, but what about the 240gr SMK? Remington states this barrel to be 1in10. Will the 240gr bullet stabilize in a 1in10? This rifle is going to be used at 1k plus. I have not ran any preliminary numbers through my ballistic program to see where the transonic range will be but I am hoping that I can stabilize the 240s. Sierra states the B.C. to be .711, .702, .685 respective to velocities. Please help.
Also does anyone have a good line on a 300 RUM brass?
Thanks

Re: 300 RUM twist vs. bullet weight

1:10 will stabilize 240's out of a 30-06, they will be stable from the 300 RUM with another 300 fps on them. The 240's I've seen stable out of a 30-06 were shot at 1200' ASL on a warm fall day.

Guys are shooting those bullets to a mile with 300 WM, the 300 RUM will do it no problem.

I'd be curious to see where you are finding 250+ gr bullets in 30 cal though, I went down this road back in August to see how heavy of a bullet I could get in 30 cal and what the biggest case to throw them was. I found a single reference to a 300 SMK but couldn't locate any.
