If you were going to build a 1 mile rifle is there an advantage of going with the Lapua mag over the Ultra mag? This rifle is for a as of now, non-hand loader. Aside from the fact that for that distance hand loading is a must, what would be the other advantages???

I'd argue better brass available for the LM....but UM would be cheaper....maybe look at the 338 Edge?

As best I can tell loaded RUM is meant for big game hunting.
LM is geared more towards very long range shooing.
Of the two I prefer LM mostly because of the rifles that chamber the round and the availiablility of detachable magazines.
However, I honestly don't recomend either for a non-loader. They're both unreasonably expensive.
For a non-loader I recomend .300wm
