Hey guys. I'm new here. I'm looking for some load data for a .338 win mag. I'm shooting a Remington 700 Sendero in .338 win mag. I have a millett LRS-1 6-25X56 scope on the gun with a millett one piece 20 moa base. 26" barrel with 1 in 10" twist. I'm gonna be loading the new bore tech 245 grain V3 solid match bullets. I have spoken with them and they said to start at the max load in a manual for a 250 grain jacketed bullet and go up from there because they generate less pressure and have to be going at LEAST 3,000 fps out of the muzzle to stabilize! A min load and a max load would be greatly appreciated if anyone has any load data for the new Berger 250 grain OTM bullets out of a .338 win mag instead of a .338 Lapua. All I can find is Lapua data. Thanks again guys. Oh and I wasn't sure where to put this. I couldn't find a reloading forum. Hope this is where it goes. Have a great day guys and send em down range.

Re: .338 win mag reloads

Welcome to the Hide.

Reloading section is located here:

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=13&page=1

At the top of the page, there's another section with reload data for numerous calibers. I would be VERY hesitant to start at a max load and work up from there, regardless of what a bullet manufacturer told you. However, I will admit I am unfamiliar with that make of bullet.

Having shot a .338 WM a fair amount, I don't think you will be able to achieve 3000 FPS with a 245 grain bullet with reasonable pressures and that barrel length, but perhaps it's possible with a newer powder that I haven't used...

Re: .338 win mag reloads

I'm with Dibbs on this one. 3,000fps with a 245gr. bullet is REALLY pushing it. I'd want to be awfully careful. I'd look into other bullet options personally. Depending on what powder you use, I'd be really careful especially if it's very temp sensitive.

Berger will email you load data to print out. Just shoot them an email.

Re: .338 win mag reloads

Your .338win Sendero is pretty damn rare. Heard about these being custom shop items, never in general production. Don't think I would risk blowing up a nice rifle trying to push for velocity threshold it was not designed to realize.

250gr bullet at 3000fps is .340 wby territory. Can't really believe 2700fps is in your realm, but whatever.

The .338win is extremely versatile, just not the velocity whore's delight. You got the platform to do everything .338 very well, just not as damn fast as the big boys. What they don't have is barrel-life... You got that in spades unless you blow your rig up first.

Get a quality scope with lots of elevation range and learn the trajectory of the super-high BC bullet of your choice. Maybe if you're really into it, you consider a custom bullet mold from NEI or another quality firm and start shooting cast bullets of 300gr or more at 2300-2400 fps. Can be done, and won't wear your barrel.

Learn that the velocity limitations of the shorter case give you many seating options the big ones wish they had.

If you really must have the velocity, get another rifle...
