Picked up a KAK 338 ARC 8.5 AR15 barrel on impulse and figured it's a good excuse as any to get a 9mm can.

That said, are 300BO sub rated pistol cans also good for 338ARC? If so, anyone have a particular favorite?

I don't care so much about overall sound performance or weight as I do flash/heat reduction since I plan to shoot with a dedicated thermal sight.

Ideally something HUB compatible.

If *not* a 9mm can, should I just send it on a 338 magnum can from Surefire or TBAC?

Are you gonna put it on anything else? If it's stay on rifles a bad Larry or lpm anthem 38 would probably work well in the 1k price range and I think both can be used on big dick magnums too

I hear good things, but no first-hand experience...

For those with 338arc shooting subs through AR pistol, is it much better than 300blk subs?
Well it's hard to compare. My 300BLK SBR uses a SPS300 or RC2-762 and I am using a Sonus 9 for the time being on the 338ARC.

The 338ARC has a better tone, and obviously more energy on the target, but I'm still waiting for my nice decibel meter to come in to try to test them side by side. I can put the Sonus 9 on a SF HUB adapter for a better comparison.

Speaking from experience only with 300 blackout subs, my omega 9k is much much louder than a full size dedicated rifle can. It's super compact, but I do not find it hearing safe with subsonics. My guess is that shooting 338 Arc through it isn't going to be that much different.

If you want something that's super compact, that you can also slap on a pistol, it's not a bad compromise. But it has its drawbacks.

What do you mean by "better"?

Noise levels I'd say are similar. Still burning 10-12gr of powder. It's obviously very dependent on the suppressor used but IME something like the TBAC Fly 9 on a 338 ARC is as quiet as most .30 cal (6-7" or longer) cans on a .300 blk. The Fly 9 in short mode is about the same as .300 blk with an Ultra 5. Tolerable for sure, but noticeably louder than the bigger cans.

I have a pinned TBAC Magnus .338 on a bolt action .338 ARC and from 5yd away it sounds like an air rifle. It sounds "wrong" like a squib happened or something. BUT, the Magnus .338 is a huge suppressor made to tame down stuff like .338 Norma and .338 Lapua.

On the terminal side, 307gr Sub-X vs. 190gr Sub-X is noticeably larger wound channels in ordnance gel. We did quite a bit of work with the 307 to try to expend energy on target as soon as possible and keep total penetration below 20-22" and actually deliver the energy to the target. 60% more bullet stopping in about the same distance. "Better" and "worth it" are going to be really subjective.
