Rifle Scopes 4 / 6 screw rings vs mounts, when and why?

I did a search and didn't see a thread on this but apologies if it's been covered before.

On my 308 and 6.5 I used NF 4 screw Ultralite rings for the optics (Burris XTRIII and ATACR). When does it make sense to go to the 6 screw rings? When does it make sense to move to a mount like the NF/Geissele/Spuhr or any of the other mount options? I assume heavier recoiling rifles like 300WM/Norma or 338 or 50BMG are the primary determinate but at waht point do you change from one type to another? Any insight into that decision process is appreciated.

Thanks

It's really just an extra insurance policy of sorts. If you're willing to deal with the extra weight it's extra gripping surface for your scope/rifle interface. Depends on the application. We use the 6 screw Heavy Tactical line on all of our match rifles. Generally use the Ultra Light Tacitcals or Long Range Hybrids on the hunting rifles.
