i have a dpms 20 heavy 1 in 9 .556. i am curious if anyone has loaded ballistic tips. i have some rl 15, varget, and tac powders. i have not loaded for a gas gun before, only bolt guns. want to be careful due to my lack of experience with these. also have to by dies, will .223 rcbs dies work for this? what about the crimp? i also have some 52 gr nosler custom comps. will these be better than the bal. tips? thanks

I have the exact same upper on one of my guns, I havent shot mine yet though, I will be very interested to see your results as I planned on shooting a 55gr as well, what mounts did you use for your scope if I may ask?? Thanks

I found the 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip to be an excellent bullet in a 24" 1:9" Savage 10FP. My load is 25.4gr of W748. The 50gr is also excellent wth around 27.0-27.5gr of W748. If anything, the bullet should be at least as good in a shorter barrel. Standard RCBS 2-die sets have always been all I've ever used for the .223/5.56. As long as you've got enough neck tension and keep the bullets to magazine length, you should be GTG without a crimp. Make sure you have a problem to fix before you try to fix it.

I was going to say exactly what the others said. Standard RCBS dies will work well.
Only crimp if you need to. I ended up and had to start crimping with a Lee factory crimp die. Just a very light crimp will usually fix the bullet set back problem.

Try the RE-15. I got very good accuracy with the Varget but I had to used compressed loads. Nosler B-tips work great. I had very good luck with 55g Sierra Blitzkings. They look just like the noslers and fly very well. Just my experience

Mini 14 1in9, RCBS bushing die, competition seater, no crimp. 26.5grs of N 135, Rem 71/2, LC cases, 3108 fps, shoots under a inch at a 100yds. No compression problems with N 135, takes up less space than H4895. Good Luck Oh ya Nos 55 gr BT
