Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude! I didnt ask you for a smart ass comment!! I am not going to throw an unknown amount of varget into a cartridge just to work up a load. Are you kidding with that comment? And you reload for other people! I hope your not a smart ass to your customers. And since you are a re loader for hire, why cant you help a fella hide member out? What the hell? Lee

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skeetlee,

Dont know if this will help but I am using 41.5grs of V100 (NOT Varget) with a 123SMK. If you got a comparison between V100 and Varget, that will at least give you an idea.

Hornady lists their recipe with 4350 right on their web site for the world to use. They introduced the round for competition and told the world their recipe to produce factory equivalent ammo. Look it up, load it up, shoot it up!!!!

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks guys. The factory load does do all that well in my rifle. I will try to copy it and roll my own and see if it improves any. I rumor is that Hornady realises that 4350 isnt the best powder for the 120gr bullets and they now load the 120's with varget. Maybe this is true maybe not? Thats just what i read somewhere. Thanks for the help. Lee

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were talking about that due to complaints that the current 120 load recoils too much for the short range match guys and they were looking at dropping the velocity and using Varget but from what i have been told it isn't going to happen. It had nothing to do with it's performance.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bro
the only way you will identify the best load for rifle is to work up several loads n compare via OCW or ladder

Use factory data and go from there, if your understanding or comfort level has been surpassed have someone do load work for $$

There are no shortcuts for developing a good load, lots of tinkering and range work

good luck

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee,
Do a ladder test(google it) at 300 yards with the bullets 10 thou off the rifling.Start at 38gr of R-17 and increase in .2gr increments until you either start to have a sticky bolt or primer flow.Do it twice to confirm a trend if you want. Then experiment with seating depth.Give your gun what it likes. They are all different.

Exactly! Someone else's load may or may not shoot in your rifle as good as it does for them. The only way to truely know is to do a load work up yourself. Since I see you posted these same questions in 3 different spots now, plus going back to your December posts, I would have already been shooting an accurate load, instead of talking about it here. It's not that freakin hard. It takes me about 20-30 rounds.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor data needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hornady actually did load some 120s with Varget. I found a couple boxes of 120s to use for comparison during load work-up - there it is on the box: "Recommended reload data:
VARGET 39.0 Grains
Fed 210M Primer
C.O.L. 2.715"

MV is listed as 3020 fps from their 28" bbl
