Bahahahahaha whenever I see shot group photos with someones hand in the picture I try and guess how many "fliers" they're covering.

Lol this work better for you👍🏻 The group was low left from my suppressor vs my brake. POI Shift is large due to using my Saker 762 which is heavy... rifle hammers.View attachment 7499896

I mean if we are being picky and since you asked.....what’s under the dime??? 🤣

Use ballistic x

But at the end of the day you do you boo-boo 😘 and forget what we think!!

Found a good, consistent number.

6.5, 2.840 COAL, 2.142 OGIVE

Lapua LRP, Federal 210M, Berger 140 Hybrids.

42.0 grains of H4350
2725 Average, ES is 6, SD is 3.

Now to fine tune the seating depth that fits under the magazine size.

Found a sticky bolt situation at 42.5, pushing 2760ish.

Hello everyone,

I'm brand new to the reloading game, I have a 6.5 creed that I will be reloading for, I have been acquiring all of the items that I'll be needing to start reloading, powder selections have been dismal at best, however I have been able to get a hold of some VihtaVuori N150, and a pound each of hodgdon Staball 6.5 and Superformance to start with. 100 pieces of Lapus 6.5 SRP brass and 100 grain hornady ELD-M bullets.

Having never reloaded before, and my main goal being to stretch this rifle out for ELR shooting, target mainly, not really hunting focused, with what I have will I be able to produce some decent ammo for target shooting at ELR distances?

Bullet choice good or do I need something heavier?

Powder choices are very very limited right now, I'd be buying H/IMR 4350 if I could find it or Vv N555, but I'm working with what's available.
So basically I'm looking for what can I do with what I've got, and what would be ideal to go with in the future as better options come available.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

130-140g weight is generally preferred in 6.5. Pay attention to neck tension. You’ll want a chrono if you don’t have one to find nodes easier. 40-41.5g will probably be your zone for nodes but work up using the 10% rule. Speed should end up between 2750-2850 depending on your barrel.

41.5 on a 140 projectile pushing 2750?

What's the charge weight for that? I'm at 42 with 140s pushing 2720 to 2730.

Maybe with a 26" barrel or something. I'm at 42 in Peterson SRP brass running 140's ~2750 22" barrel.

26” barrel.
140 Hybrids.
42.5gr H4350.
2820 FPS.

Jumping .080”
Not even a hint of pressure. I went up to 44gr.

Does anyone have any short barreled load data? Putting together a 16.5” 6.5 creed and curious on bullet/powder combos and realistic velocity expectations. Got some 130 hybrids, 150 smk, and 140 RDF on hand.

I’m using hornady brass for this load.
41.3g Hodgdon 4350 and CCI 200s
Avg velocity over magnetospeed is 2761 @ 20rds
Bartlein 24” barrel chambered by Mark Gordon at short action customs
With alpha brass I’m getting same speed with 40.2g all other processes and ingredients the same

18"
41.4g H4350 gave me 2600-2650 with 140ELDM/142SMK/143ELDX.
I can't remember the charge weight but I was getting 2900+ with 123ELD/SMKs.

All shot great, but ELDX is what I used for the PRS season due to stupid small groups.

Heck yeah thanks for the info, that’s not bad for a shorty. I’m thinking the 150gr smk might be the ticket in my 16.5” just because everything is gonna be slow may as well go with the best bc. at 2500fps it actually cuts the wind very well but I don’t know if that’s attainable.

Anybody tried VV N555 + Hornady ELD-M 140gr in 6.5 Creedmoor, Lapua SP brass? Rifle is a AI AXMC with proof carbon 26" barrel. I'm trying to find some load data (range) for this combination. There is some data on this powder from VV but not the bullet.

I tried load development in my RPR with 150g SMK's and they require a faster twist to stabilize than my 1:8 barrel could deliver, even at close to 2900 fps. Mine does like 147g ELD-M projectiles.

Hornady brass
Hornady 147g ELD-M projectiles
CCI BR-2 primers
2.810 COAL(.035" jump)
Superformance 44.8g charge(approx. 2850-ish fps at the barrel)
SD averages 2-5 fps
low .4 to low .5 MOA's at 600, 800 and 1000 yards.
Bipod on the front and rear bag with Mark and Sam's adjustable bag base at the rear

10/4 my rifle will have a 7.5” twist so hopefully it’ll handle the 150s. Will post up results of ladder tests with 130, 140, and 150gr bullets once my action comes in.

Misouth Shootets Supply has some Nosler 140g Custom Competition right now, I just looked!

I've never used any of their stuff, I'm more partial to the Berger. Lapua and SMK projectiles. I like the Hornady ELD-M stuff also.

My velocities are nowhere near what some of you guys are getting with such low charges of H4350.

My velocity at 41gr is 2555 with the Berger 130 hybrid! I’m using virgin lapua SRP brass with CCI 450s. My go to load right now with the Berger 130 is 44.5gr loaded .030” off jam. Those running at 2850~ all over my magnetospeed v3.

what gives? Slow batch of powder? Slow barrel? It’s a 24” Bartlein 8tw.

How many rds on the barrel?

I’ve got 1500 on mine and loading 40.3g H4350 is getting me 2761avg in Alpha brass with CCI 200s. The Lapua should be similar though. Especially running a 130

Would you rather substitute H4350 with IMR4350 or Winchester Staball?
I have had relatively similar, albeit a bit less consistent, results with IMR4350 which I was used when I couldn't find H4350. This is based on limited experience (just 1 lb of IMR4350) and I am a novice reloader. Hornady's published load data coincides generally with my experience. I was getting an average of 2,760 fps with 41.5 gr IMR4350 out of a 24" 1:8" Savage factory barrel. Hornady brass, Federal 210, 140 gr ELDMs, 2.80 COL. I am getting an average of 2,746 fps with 42.5 gr H4350, all other components the same.

I have a recently purchased 8lb of H4350 that appears to be significantly "slower" than the 1lb jars I had previously purchased from a friend who had it in storage for a while. The 8lb came directly from Hodgdon, so I am assuming it is from a more recently produced lot. I have been attributing the difference to more rounds on my barrel and cooler weather, but would be interested to hear if anyone else has noticed a big difference in recent powder lots.

I am sitting on about 15k worth of Federal 210M primers. So, any change to SRP brass won't be for quite a long time.

What was the powder weight for getting the 140 at that speed?

Most rifles with 24 to 26” barrels need around 41 grains of H4350 to do 2720-2780 fps with 140 gn projectiles.

My factory rifles need 0.3 to 0.5 more because their chambers are oversized, the custom rifles around 0.5 less (tight chambers).

YMMV.

How much of a speed difference (or how many grains different to achieve the same speed)?

That is nearly 200 fps slower than the average rifle. What barrel length are you running?

Unlikely to be the barrel, Bartleins generally give more speed not less.

Could be a bad batch of powder or primers. Or both. Try a different powder and primer, and see how it compares with book values. Or even better, try Hornady or Berger Match (factory) ammo and compare with the speed printed on the box.

I haven’t touched my 8lb jug yet so don’t know how it will fare. I’ve only got into some 1lb’ers I traded for. They are all the same lot, 101066 5496.

The 8lb is: 8121418 7089.

It’s a 24” barrel. I think its this batch of powder personally. I’ve tried fed 205 primers, CCI 450s and Tula small rifle primers. 44.5grs of powder, Berger 130 hybrids, changing only the primers, avg velocities for 5 shots:

Fed 205 2785
CCI 450 2845
Tula SRM 2873

I shot 6 shots of factory hornady 140 eldms and that avg was 2717. That seem about right?

yes I was right in that wheel house of velocity with factory 140eldm loads. I just picked up a new jug of h4350 and once I load with it I'll report back on the speed I'm getting with it.

I'll check my batch number and report back.

If you have a second rifle with a known H4350 load (where you accurately know the speed), preferably using the same batch of primers as before, then load 10 rounds and crony them, and if the second rifle is similarly slow, then you know it is the powder.

Then simply adjust your loads as needed - and go shoot! These things do happen occasionally.
