6.5prc powders

So I just got into this cartridge, and I like it so far. Only downside is rl26 is no where, as is h1000. I found a lb of h1000 and had 2 loads with 147eldm that were in the mid .2s, but cannot find it online or locally. I use h4831sc in 243ai, and loaded some 140 eldm with it for the prc. Should shoot it today or tomorrow, but I have a feeling it will hit pressure before I get the speed. Have any of you guys tried imr 7977 or 8133? Both are temp stable and both are similar burn rates to h1000 and retumbo.

I'm using a deadline short action and shilen prefit 26" heavy palma. It has a .188 freebore and to fit in accurate 300wsm mags, I have to jump bullets .050. It also wont eject loaded rds at that length, and my jump is only going to increase as I chase throat erosion. The 140eldm eject loaded and can be jammed .010(if I want) and still fit in mags.

So if you've tried those imr powders, let me know what you found.

Well I found some h1000 in quantity, but I decided to try some h4831sc that I had.

55.5 and 55.7 showed very faint ejector marks. In my barrel, h4831sc pressured out before it got speed. It would probably be a good powder for shorter barrels or lighter bullets.

I had h1000 loaded, wish I'd let everything cool, barrel was causing mirage build up on 3rd shot making target smear.

66rds on barrel. 58.0 gr looked good, wish it was 50-75fps faster. 58.6 and 58.9 is right on a velocity node, going to try 58.6, 58.8, and 59.0. I got faint ejector swipe on a few cases at 59.5. Hopefully barrel speeds up a little, 3020 is kinda slow but still alright I guess. Sd was extremely good, granted 3 shot strings isnt statistically great, but only 1 load out of 12 was higher than single digit sd.

Since RL26 and N570 are hard to find I'd try N560. Somewhere around 59.5gr should get you over 3100 FPS.

Settled on 58.7, right between on a good node. 5 shots from zeroing, first shot felt good and held on it for next four. They stacked up about a .1mil left.

5 at 1k, wind was 10-15mph fv.

I like the way you measure groups seems familiar here’s a 3 shot 1065
150 Sierra match king
3045 velocity
Norma mrp
54.2 grains
The wind is very rough on the 6.5 compared to my rum and it always opens up my horizontal spread
It be nice if they would put measurement lines on dip cans if so I’d always have a tape measure lmao.Great shooting

I purchased some 145 match burners I found a node at 57.3 with really tight groups at 3015 FPS I did run up to 58.7 but no nodes and pressured out with a velocity of 3150 to 3175 with retumbo the higher velocity group were around .5 to .75 the 57.3 group was all toughing. Rl 22 Worked really well I’m my 6.5
With several nodes but I could not get the velocity I wanted at the time but it will be on my list in the future

144gr? Were those barnes pretty easy to load or were they finicky like a 6mm 110smk? I've had one out of 6 6mm barrels like the 110, all were 3050+fps and 7 or 7.5. The barrel that liked the 110 shot them good over multiple charges. The other varrels just showed buckshot patterns, but hammered with 107smk and 105hybrids. The Barnes 112gr was good in a couple barrels, just not as easy to load as 107 or 105.

I need to shoot some more to know I got a low sd I don’t care to much about shooting 100 yards but I loaded up 10 so far 5 each at 2 different seating depts I’ll run them at 1080 and see how they do it took me 15 rounds and 2 powders to find a decent node retumbo and Norma mrp they did not like being pushed .

Honed in load for a new prc barrel. I needed to put hair around 2.290 group, had a hard time putting last shot in the hole. Adg brass, br2, 58.6gr h1000 with 140eldm. 35rds on barrel so far, 3040fps and 3.6sd

Since ai wont make a short action magnum rifle, I did. Badger 2013, ax, bix 2 stage, and 26" bart hvy palma 8tw.
