I was wondering what the forum members thought of the 6.8 SPC round? I heard about the ongoing testing several years ago from some SF buddies just before I finished my military career. I shoot 556/223 and 5.45X39, prefering the 545X39 in AK74 or Krink platforms. I have considered purchasing an AR in 6.8 SPC a few years ago when AR's and their related ammo's were plentifil. But now looking at the prices and availability I am somewhat hesitant. Any help, insight, or opinons would be helpful.

capttom1,

I have given some consideration to 6.8 SPC. Take look at the Wilson Combat site. They have some info on their site. Yeah, they sell some expensive semi-auto platforms, but there is some useful info along with the usual gun porn. My take is it provides a way to chamber the round in the AR platform but enjoys more hitting power than the 5.56. Depending on barrel length chosen you can employ this round for a close to mid range with significant stopping power. This may not be an accurate description but with the AR platform, the 6.8 SPC allows the M16 act more like an AK.
