Nice improvement learjet, I have your 50 yard average updated.

Merry Christmas to all also!

I was practicing for ARA today and decided to do a 6x5. I’m pretty sure I can improve on it. I had been shooting for hours and the cheap scope had my eyes all jacked up. Hopefully I get a chance to mount a Sightron 45x on it and zero it before Saturday’s match.

jbell, just checking in to make sure. You started a fresh list for 2022 at each of the distances? If that's correct, then I'll starting looking for some calm days to re-shoot the 50, 100 and 200.

Thanks,

RFS99

Today’s effort at 90M. The weather was challenging as you can see. I’m not using better ammunition because i think it would be wasted under these conditions.

unfriendly conditions ! Do you find your velocities very low when it is so cold ?
I try to keep the ammunition and rifle in the truck between strings. SK S+ and SKRM have been slow for me at all temps and in the factory and IBI barrels. 1035 yesterday, barely 1000 in the factory barrel. Eley is close to the box velocity.

thanks  similar to my experience, although i tend to give up below -10 C

Well I fell for it had to order a vudoo and see which holds the best accuracy the factory vudoo with bartlein 22inch mtu or the rimx with a 22 inch shilen not sure how fair I can make this but I’m gonna have fun attempting it.

I tried out a new to me CZ today. I had planned to put 200 rounds of Federal Automatch through it, clean it and try some better Ammo. I forgot my cleaning rod though so my plan changed. I started out with a box of SK Rifle Match. I bought this rifle at an ARA match. Someone overheard me saying that there wasn’t a 24” barreled 457 in the country to be had. The original owner said he only shot 50 rounds through it. A borescope confirmed it was probably true and it was copper plated Ammo at that. It has the best test target out of my 12 CZ’s. I shot this target in moderate to heavy rain, but there was almost no wind. The target includes cold clean bore shot and no prior fouling. I’m glad I use card stock because I barely peeled it off the cardboard without tearing it.
I hadn’t planned on shooting a 6x5 with this Ammo, but it was shooting good so I let it roll. I probably should have shot another group to bring the average down. I have high hopes for this rifle now. I’ll get it on a bipod and bring some CenterX and try it again soon. I now have a 24” VPT en route too.

Here’s my submission for cold weather. 23degrees but calm, sun was setting. Shot prone 100 yards. Vudoo with jewel trigger, Foundation Centurion, NF 7-35. I have been wanting to test eley for a while. I didn’t “tune” any at all. Started out with clean barrel, shot 5 at 50yds then went straight for 100. It may have done better if I had shot a few more foulers. I shot top row left to right, then bottom row left to right. I did come down .2tenths as I cycled through the groups. Best group was .579" and average was .848".

I need to get in this game. There are some nice groups. I do 10 round groups...gives a better average overall. More rounds, more chance to make a mistake.

I went to an indoor range today. It turned out not to be much of an advantage. I had AR-15 on both sides of me. The one on the right of me was an SBR. Two benches to my left was a SCAR in .308. I felt like I was in a war zone. 😆
The lighting was pretty dim at 50 yards too.
I’m not too happy with the results, but I have to start somewhere. This setup did great at a recent ARA Factory match. I have another VPT that is being lot tested at Lapua in AZ so I’ll have another entry soon.

I switch back and forth between an unbraked 300PRC and an 18 lbs 22LR. Sometimes there is an SKS mag dump on the line too. I like to work at ignoring the distractions.

My home club is BGSL in Wilmore, KY. Today I went to this indoor range (Openrange) in Crestwood, KY. I’ve shot ARA Factory class at Big Chief’s Rimfire Club in Pendleton, KY a handful of times.

We still had lots of snow on the ground but temperature was nice and I got a new lot of midas+ so I had to try it. The top half was my original lot (28 speed) but I hadn't been able to test it in decent weather. It shot an average of .754" with best 5 shot being .579". Bottom half of target was new lot (29 Speed) that shot an average of .670" and a best 5 shot of .513".. All shot 100 yds prone and temp was 56F and cooled off to around 50F before I was done. Same rifle V22 Vudoo with 7-35NF.

jbell, I was not aware that you could shoot indoors for the 6x5. I have been testing indoors at a 50 yard range, and if it's ok, I can shoot the 50 yard indoor 6x5 and send in the results. It's just been too cold to get outside to shoot in SE Wisconsin. Please let me know if that is acceptable. If not, I understand, so no big deal. Only three more months until we start to see warmer temperatures around here!

As far as I am concerned indoors is welcome. It doesn’t matter to me…

jbell, had a chance to get outside today.
Temp - 47
WInds - 8mph from the southeast
Humidity - 57%

I posted three targets, with three bulls on each target. I shot the first target, then moved down, shot the two bulls on the top of the page, then moved down to the lower bull, but adjusted my scope down to the third target, hence shooting 3 bulls on the first target, 2 bulls on the second target, and the center lower bull on the last target.

No cold bore shot included.

Groups:
.225
.227
.205
.159
.251
.255 = 1.322/6 = 0.220 ave. (.159 best group)

Rifle:
Holeshot 2500x action, Shilen rachet barrel, Harrell's tuner, Scott's Mid-Barrel tuner, NF 15-55 Competition scope, Bix n Andy trigger, McMillan SF Straightline stock.

Ok, did a little lot test on 3 lots of SK LR that I've got in the new Vudoo.

The setup:

First, 20 rounds of each at 50yds with the magnetospeed..

0.391 average the wind got a little squirrely for groups 2 and 4..

0.316 average Looks like this is going to be the match ammo for the next few months!

I will get it lot tested at Lapua sometime this year hopefully but this should do for now.

Rimfireshooter99 & Quickoz, I have you guys on the results. Quickoz I did the best I could to do the math backwards from the MOA listed on your best group to determine the group size to the thousandth of an inch. I noticed that several groups were 0.24” but had different MOA, so I picked the smallest MOA and worked backwards. I think I am very close but let me know if I messed up.

Ha! I must have smoked a little too much crack last night. For some reason I thought Hookturnr’s post was yours. My mistake, I’ll get it sorted out now!

It was raining and windy today, but I had to shoot some. The targets were soaking wet so when I measured I measured some of the holes to where the grease ring should have been. I shot one with Center X, but the Midas+ was the winner, barely.

I bought two 1957 model BRNO model 2’s recently, both beat up pretty badly. I tried to shoot this one last week, but the firing pin spring was weak and wouldn’t hit hard enough to fire. I took the bolt apart to put a new spring in and discovered the “lube” inside was all sticky after a few decades. That was what the problem was. The trigger is kind of heavy compared to what I’m used to. I’ll fix that.
Apparently this thing is pretty darn accurate. I can’t wait to do the trigger and shoot some Center X through it.

I still have to try the other one out. I also have a new, old 452 Lux too and I have a NIB CZ 452 2500 Super BRNO with a 29” barrel enroute. That’s enough CZ’s for a while.

This target was soaking wet too. I measured to where the grease ring would have been.
