Gunsmithing 722 questions

One of my F /Tr rifles is built on a Rem. 722. I've been working on heavy bullet load development, and have been pushing pressures pretty hard. The last range trip, the rifle stopped extracting some of the time. When I checked the bolt face, the extractor is still there, but the ejector looks slightly peaned, and I'm thinking that if it is peaned, it might not sit quite flush w/ the bolt face, thereby spacing the base of the case off the face just enough to make the extractor not get a possitive bite ont he rim. Does this make sense?

I realize extractors are a touchy business w/ the 722. Maybe my best bet is to remove the ejector, fill the hole, and install a sako extractor...

Re: 722 questions

If you are pushing your loads too hard your extraction problems may multiply. The 722 extractor is suspect but usually will do OK under normal pressures. You can install a Sako type and keep your ejector. I do them for $125.00 plus return shipping.
