trying to develop a load for a tactical match. using 162 amax on 63.5 gr of Re-22. Fed 215 primers. According to sierra manual this should yield 2900 - 2950 fps. Out of my 24" rem factory barrel I just got 2525 on a CED chrono. Is that even possible?

Re: 7mm rem mag velocities

That was an average of about 7 shots...In direct sunlight with skyscreens on. and about 15 feet from muzzle Thanks for the link It looks like I can go up in powder charge some I did not have any pressure signx...

Re: 7mm rem mag velocities

Not really sure where to go next.. most all load data says that I can safely go up 1.5 to 2 gr. But that would likely add just another 100 fps. 2650 out of a Rem may seems pretty weak. According to my loading manuals I should be 2900 - 3000 already. Whiskey Tango?

Re: 7mm rem mag velocities

I guess it could be the chrono but the numbers were pretty consistent. E.S. of about 22 fps for 7 rounds, so not like it was all over the place. The load didn't shoot very well so I'll likely go up in powder anyway but I need an accurate MV to determine trajectories.

Re: 7mm rem mag velocities

I looked through the load data thread. There were a couple of guys going up to 66.5 gr with the amaxs and RE-22. That is about 2 gr over the Max load listed in the sierra manual. I don't believe even that would get me to 3000 fps. I thought surely I could get that with the Amax.

Why would yours be that much slower.......Just Sayin

That's kinda my point. I checked my scale with Check weights. The. 22lr idea is a good one but I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with a load being that much slower than expected and what might cause it.

Re: 7mm rem mag velocities

I have officially figured this one out. I added more powder to the loads and went back the next day and shot through the chrony again. I was getting even slower velocities. 64 gr RE-22 in a 7mm Rem mag now reading 2250 fps on the chrony. Consistant but obviously very low. I then moved over to another bench and lowered the chronograph till both sensors were completely in the shade and shot 25 rounds all with very consistent velocities in the 2950 range. It seems that the sunlight was at a bad angle and giving very erroneous chronograph readings.

I should have given you credit here......You were dead on, and your suggestion was why I moved it to the shade.
