Hunting & Fishing A few more yotes...how I spent my Xmas vacation

Re: A few more yotes...how I spent my Xmas vacation

Thanks guys.
The rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite in .243. I had a local smith chop the barrel down to 16 1/2" and a Vais muzzle brake installed. Not raelly for recoil but to protect the crown. But with the brake it feels like shooting a .223.
The rifle shoots VERY well...sub 1/2" five shot groups at 100 yards using Hornady 75gr hollow point factory ammo (see pic).
This is main go-to yote rifle and worked over so it was a light and easy handling rifle that I could carry around all day chasing coyotes.

Take care,Stan

love the rifle set up. How much velocity do you lose with that short of a barrel. Am building a 243ai but not sure on barrel length yours sure looks handy to pack and shoot.

please let us know how you customised that tikka. my wife has on and ive "had" three. i would have kept a hold of them a bit longer if i knew there was someone out there that did work like that! i love the bolt knob, wow! and the short barrels too cool man! damn fine groups too

Well it really is no big deal to customized a rifle. Just take it to a good smith. Pretty much everything on this rifle is bolt on...the over sized bolt knob in the last pic is from Sako. The picatinny rail is a EGW 20 MOA. The custom bolt handle seen in the first pics is make by a gent here on the hide. It is a drop in replacement and no smithing required.

As far as velocity loss...not sure. I do not own a chronograph. But again...this rifle is just for yote busting. So the ranges I shoot at are under 300 yrds generally and most are between 100 and 150 yards. I am thinking the 75gr. bullets I shoot will still be around 3000fps. They are rated for 3400fps from a 22" barrel.
All I know is even at 200+ yards it passes clean through a coyote and leaves a LARGE exit wound.

Take care,Stan
