What a hoot, these MF'ers should do stand up comedy. So let me get this straight, ground zero of the fucking political swamp is no place for political statements.

I agree it is both for security and a political statement. One we'll hope we never have to use, the other should be pushed down their throats until they understand the constitution and especially the second amendment is what they are supposed to be protecting and following.

A holstered pistol is not only security and state of well being. It is also a symbol of individual franchise, mobility, and responsibility for one's own decisions and life, just like a sword worn upon the belt of a person in older times. This symbolism is why many draconian governments put far more emphasis on trying to restrict handgun ownership over long arms. Even countries with relatively lenient laws on the ownership of rifles and shotguns would adamantly frown upon handguns, like many former combloc eastern European nations. Even China, which had surprisingly lax laws upon the ownership and carrying of hunting rifles up until 1997, made it clear that pistols are extremely restricted except in very limited circumstances ahem* Communist Party gentry *ahem (cue to Middle Ages nobility and wearing swords)...
Hard to enforce a regulation, when every law passed includes exemption from that law for members of Congress.
"You can't bring that in here! It violates the rules and regulations!"
"Oh, I'm exempt."

Just to add, it is not long ago at all, where the Sergent-At-Arms up here in Canada had to shoot a mentally-defective gunman right here in our Capitol's Parliamentary building.
For those whom have it in their head 'it can't happen here'....
