The FC-5 is equally robust as the HD50. The FC-5 actually weighs a tad more than the HD50 and has a 5 inch wider max stance for stability (if needed). It also can sit lower (if needed) and can actually get you 1/2 inch more height (if needed). I think it is the locking mechanism where these two may vary. My (other) FC-5 sat under my 300 Norma Mag.
