Hey guys im considering a ACOG TA31RCO for a build that im piecing together, but i realized that the barrel im using is a 18" and the Reticle on the TA31 is gonna be off since it's calibrated for 20' barrels.

I will be using 55gr for the most part, 69gr Fed and 75gr Hornadys from time to time.

The gun will be used mostly for multi-gunning and pulling the ocational 400-600yd shot.

Should i look else where or the margin is so small i wont even notice?

At this point im weighting my options, this wont be my primary optic for the gun. As i said, multi-gunning and the ocattional long shot when run and gunning is what im doing with the ACOG.

All input will be well taken.

Thanks in advance.

J.

Re: ACOG TA31RCO-A4 Calibration question

I have a TA31F on a 16" Colt 6920. The think to keep in mind is that it's not meant to be a precision optic. It's meant to put hits on man sized targets. If precision is your goal I would consider something else. Also, I would pass on the RCO models. They're more expensive and the only difference are the internal hash marks that you will never use.

Re: ACOG TA31RCO-A4 Calibration question

The thing is im having trouble finding something "all around" for less than 1K. And i don't mean "end all" all around but something i can rely on close-mid and occationally strech it out long.

ACOG seems to be the cure but yeah, it's no precision optic.

Would i be better served with a 1-4 optic? Vortex PST 1-4 maybe?

Thanks guys!

Re: ACOG TA31RCO-A4 Calibration question

It won't make a damn bit of difference. I use my TA31f on my 14.5" 6.8 SPC and it hit targets out to 600 yards. The 7 and 800 markers might even work. I have just never tried them.

Like swage said, it is ment for shooting man sized targets.

Re: ACOG TA31RCO-A4 Calibration question

I can consistently now hit caribou at 500 yards with my 6.8 stag with acog TA31H (red dot/ghost ring). You won't find a faster shooting scope than the acog, pull up bang kinda thing. Acog basically is a 100-200 yard scope that is always on and sure is great right at dusk and right after dark, but one needs a little practice to guarantee the 500 yard shots. My red dot is a couple inches at 100 yards and ghost ring is around 8 inches at 100 yards. When I throw up on a bou at 500 yards, the ghost ring is a few feet over the top of it's antlers.

Trijicon has a nice catalog, get it. Has all the reticles available. I'm getting ready to buy another one, having a hard time deciding on getting another 31 or different model; Illum crosshairs.

Agreed, I have both the TA31F and the RCO and have found no use in my shooting for the 5 MOA Horizontal hash marks. If I was miltary then mabe woth it but isn't for me. Could have saved $$$ on aanother TA31F
