just curious. ive never see it installed or in person so i cant even guess if it will work. but with all of the changes at savage making it hard to get bottom metal to fit the new guns, a side release or converting the in front of the trigger guard release back to standard side release that might help out with bottom metal choices.

someone also said in a post converting to the side release was or look like it would be pretty easy.

that is almost exactly where the serial number is. one strike. plus i just dont know it its mechanically do-able. maybe clocked higher on the side?

Re: adding that slick side bolt release to a savage

I have one on my M40a3. I like it better than trying to do it under the trigger guard especially since I have big fingers too. I had a buddy do it for me and it wasnt a big problem to do it. I love it and if I wasnt such a die-hard on the spec builds Id put it on all my rifles.

Not all new Savages have bottom release... </div></div>

thats what i have now, its just not as sexy as the remmy. never thought about having to pull the trigger to release the bolt, i was just thinking when the lever went away, that could too. hmmmm, dream on i guess

Re: adding that slick side bolt release to a savage

On the old side release models I don't see there being enough beat in the receiver to do anything with it. The newer ones with the bottom release may have potential.

Re: adding that slick side bolt release to a savage

it would be redundant as the sear release of the fire pin is the same part that acts as the bolt stop, so to remove the factory bolt stop would mean the gun won't fire.
Put in a side bolt stop and all you did was double your work to remove the bolt.

Except the new guns use the exact same parts- save the cut on receiver and the release lever up top- the rest of parts inside are the same.. So to be able to mod the current line to a more friendly method would be nice!!

It sure would, but you still need to pull the actual sear away from the inside of the action so it doesn't block the bolt lug from exiting the rear of the action. so a physical side bolt stop would still be redundant.
