Advice google can't find for a new shooter

To begin, I am a college student that has been shooting all my life. In the past year I have begun to shoot long range. I purchased an ltr, topped it with a bushnell elite tac and have since been shooting it as often as fgmm 168s are available. I plan to begin shooting competition as this seems to be the best way to become a better shooter and I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend.

So, I have to have dbm and the ltr stock does not fit me well at all. A chassis system seems to be the answer to all the problems. I have settled between the rock solid and the mcrees, I have found information on both while lurking here and going to the websites of each. Mcrees states that it does not require bedding but others have said otherwise and rock solid makes no claim whatsoever. I would like some information to straighten things out before I make a purchase.

First off, welcome to the Hide.

As far as bedding a action into a chassis, it depends more on the action than the chassis itself. The chassis manufacturer can ensure things ar square and true on their end, but Remington actions have been known to have inconsistencies. Often times when you torque the action into the chassis, you will tweak the out of true action causing accuracy issues, other times they drop in without a problem.

Proper stress free bedding of any action into any stock can only help, I don't see where it can hurt. I've had a chassis system that would shoot .2 high and .1 left on the first shot then bury the rest of the mag in the center. Let the rifle cool and same thing, high and left on shot 1 rest in the middle. I bedded over the chassis and the issue went away. My personal opinion is a chassis is a joke. Bed it and be done.
