when you're trying to sleep and some drunk prick with a camera won't leave you alone...

This is our 12YO Great Dane, Pita. She blocks the door after my wife goes to bed and doesn't go to her own bed (comferter off to the left) until after I come in. It's nice to know that she's 'looking out for Mama' before I get there. BTW, it doesn't look like it, but this is "High Alert". She's a real sight when her hair bristles and she's bowed up barking.

of course once she figures out who the intruder is (ie. Me) she's not all that threatening.

I call this the, "Dave you are such an ass whip" look... Thanks to the flash you can tell she likes to sleep next to the door.

I know it's kind of a meaningless post but she's moving a tad slower these days and thought she need some positive PR.

Damn. That makes me miss My Dane Santana so much. Beautiful pooch Ya have there.

Santana has been gone now for almost 20 years, and I still miss her.

Got a Giant Schnauzer that does the very same thing. After I go to bed she'll hop up with us and sleep at my feet watching the door.

She really is a sweetheart. Super gentle and just wants some attention. Her size scares some folks (143#) but she just wants someone to lean on to scratch her ears. She still knows when something isn't right and when she barks it shakes the windows. Honestly, I prefer it that way. If she was aggressive she'd be a handful. The other day at the vet she pulled me (200#) and a bench about seven feet across the waiting room so she could play with a yellow lab puppy.

Tell me about it. She still gets around pretty good though. On cold mornings you can tell she's a little stiff but after a few minutes she's ready to go run with the other two knuckle heads. When I get home from work she sort of hops (front legs about 2" off the ground) and alternates feet. All is good for now but I am dreading the day she starts to hurt.

That's about where Sadie is too. About 115 pounds, got her about 8 years ago after our son died when she was a pup. You can deffinately tell she's getting pretty stiff anymore.

It's hard watching them get old. Pita can't get on the bed. It's too high for her. Not to mention that after my wife and I plus the Dobie and the mutt the CA. king just isn't big enough... Her spot is at the foot of the bed. Every once in a while when she's not ready to sack out for the night she'll come over to my side and put her chin on the bed. After a few scratches she'll go lay down.

the gray looks good on the ol girl. he, as mine went into the later years, i started giving them aspirin. talk to your vet. its cheaper than the 2 pills that they have for $5-$7 each and it will help them get up and down easier. love them lots and make sure you have plenty of pictures
