I just wanted to thank Chris over at Alpha mags for the quick shipment of my resupply of mags.

I had a chance to use some of the first run of mags as did a bunch of other shooters and Chris has done a hell of a job improving these bad boys and perfecting them.

These mags offer a variety of advantages that the hard to find AICS mags dont.

    1. Having the front plate removed allows for loading your ammo even longer.
    2. They are much smaller and compact in size.
    3. The feeding is much smoother and more reliable.
    4. Plus they cost 1/4 less in price

Here are some pics to compare:

The magazine is a 10 round Alpha Mag as well as the ones laying on the ground

As you can see the 10 Round Alpha mag is much more compact which helps you get your rifle in lower positions. Many time when using the 10 rounds AICS mags I wouldnt be able to take angled shots do to the magazine being to long and I would have to switch to a 5 round magazine and conduct a magazine change breaking my position.

I am confident this new magazine will assist in this situation as well.

$62 a mag and they have them in stock!!

If you handload then you want the ability to go longer if you want.

I would go type 2 everytime even if i didnt handload.

whats the scoop on the modified feed ramp it mentions on the site? are you saying the gen 2 will work fine in my set up without mods?

also, what amax load are you running there if it's not too classified. been thinking of developing a 178 amax load for all purpose.

    thanks,

    dg

The Type 2 mags will allow rounds of the .308 family (308, 260, etc) to be loaded to 2.985". The issue is the rifle's feedramp will prevent this as the magwell opening is too short, hence the mod on the website. I dremel'd on my feedramp and am quite pleased.

As for a 178gr Amax load, I am using 42.3gr behind them in LC M852 brass seated .015" from the lands.

thanks for the info. the gen 2 will work with out opening up the feed ramp if you should not desire to do so....correct. i assume this mag is just lacking the forward plate that the aics mags have letting you run longer rounds?

    thanks,

    Re: Alpha Mags Props

If you open up the feedramp for the type 2 mag w/dremmel tool
    2.90 oal

are you then stuck with using longer rounds in that rifle, or can you go back to a factory round and mag 2.80 oal

    Re: Alpha Mags Props

The Alpha Mags I grabbed for my 300 WSM work flawlessly in my McRee stock. I was stoked to get some factory mags that did not need adjusting to run WSM rounds through.

    Good product.

I really like the new site! Looks good and I'm always picky about that kinda thing.

You should send your web dude to have a talk with USO :)

I've heard that USO is actually sitting on a site redesign that should be out soon.

Back on topic, really looking forward to my new Alpha magazines arriving!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone have a pic of their modified 700 feed ramp to accept these? It looks like I have to make the mod, but I'd like a close-up pic and any input on the best dremel tool to do the job. I'd like to get it done tonight if possible. *

I just got my Alpha Type-2 mag today and it fits my bullet recipe!:
2.937" OAL, Win fully prepped brass, CCI primed, 43.5g I-4064, 168g SMK

Answered my own question... it looks like Alpha has some good pics on their e-store HERE and I just made the mod with the rough grit (~120) 1/8" dremel cylinder. Works like a charm!

    +1 Alpha Industries

Same but not... same mag, renamed, and redone to address issues. Chris has done an awesome job to fix the issues and the Alpha Mag is now a bad arse piece of equipment.

    Hey, is that JRose's pic?!

I went square on my 308:

Feed ramp still works fine with shorter factory loads too.

Chris has been excellent at supporting his product, and making sure that his product is the best it can be! The Type 2's that I'm running now are almost perfect!
