I am suprised that the Berger 185 HPBT LR isnt more popular with all the guys shooting .308 on here. Seems like a .560 G1 BC would be a big advantage for the long range shooters.

I'm looking for some velocity numbers on this load.

185gr HPBT .308 Berger Long Range
Lapua neck sized brass
210m primer
42.2gr Varget
2.931" COAL

My guess puts it at 2500 fps, but I got no chrono. Planning on shooting at 550y with this load. I have a 1:10 24" barrel for reference. Surely, someone else has loaded this right?

Re: Am I the only one shooting 185 Bergers for .30

If you know your POI for 100,200,300,400,500 yrds,
you could play around with velocity figures in some ballistics software untill the trajectory matches your POI's... It's crude, but it could give you a ballpark figure of your actual fps?

On the computer, I use jbmballistics.com.. The simplified trajectory should work ok for you.. Until you can beg/steal/borrow a chrono anyway

I have some 185 scenars to try, but havnt got around to them yet.

I have them but havnt run them thru my chrony yet

If i use them for their intended hunting purpose i really wouldnt put them past 200 yards for large game as they will drop off in power

Are you using these for hunting or target?

For target projectiles I prefer the 155gr Scenars

Several of us here in Texas are shooting them. So far they are winning matches. We are using RL-15 45 to 46 grains. Were getting 2800 to 2825fps. I must add though that our guns were built to shoot this kind of bullet. If you want more info on the load and what we do call me 940-366-1669

Any reasons for using the 185 vs 190 Berger in a 308?

I have some 190 on the way and looking for some info.

Currently using the 155.5's.

Barrel is a 25" ,1/12", LW

PS; I presume that a longer throat is preferable for achieving higher velocities with these heavier bullets
