20 hours ago — CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois will become one of three states to require employers to offer paid time off for any reason after Gov.

I'll see that, and raise you this.....

Illinois employers must offer workers paid time off based on hours worked, with no need to explain the reason for their absence as long as they provide notice in accordance with reasonable employer standards.

Interesting. Government through taxes, regulation, and policy makes it harder to survive (intentionally) and then comes in and attacks small business once again to “remedy” the problem gov’t created to begin with. This is nothing more than the continuation of bleeding small business dry. Only big companies will be allowed to thrive. Rule by gov/big corporation. Fascism.

I take it if businesses holding on by a thread don’t comply, badged men with guns will imprison and if resisted kill these “criminals” for the good of gov’t. That is their job afterall regardless of the illusions some of you and them have in ya’lls heads.

It's basically 6 days PTO per year required for full-time employees... Not as fucked up as it sounds.
That’s bad enough and how it starts.

I have to say that's not so bad. When I was small business employer, I gave employees PTO (much more generous that the above actually) that could be used at one's discretion once 3 month probation was met, and was additionally accrued with employment duration. Easier than dealing with doctors notes, excuses etc.

You’d have to assume that Maggit could read or else you’d have to assume 100% of his posts are bollox (except those about the wolf cubs. They’re cute as fuck).

I sort of get it. There are employers out there that even if you have paid days off or PTO they want to approve if you are allowed to take off. Then, there are some that go further with this and basically require you to give them proof as to why you need a PTO day.

These are 'fuck off' days. It can easily be adjusted to where if a company offered X amount of PTO or vacation or sick days, they simply subtract 6 from that number, and give you 6 'fuck off' days.

I have no problem with employers offering it, the problem I have is it being gub'mint mandated. I have no choice in the matter. Whatever happened to just plain vacation time?

    Why yes, yes I did.

But were you forced to do that or did you do it of your own volition?

I misread your first sentence....which seems to be happening a lot. I'm getting a lot dumber with age. Me misreading that sentence is what lead me to think that you didn't read the article.

That's on me for being a aging dipshit.

    My apologies.

where i live, "vacation" is called pto, and can be used for whatever...dentist appointment or vacation.
sick days are different and you have those hours available right away, while pto accrues by a percentage of hour worked.

I don't get any paid vacation. I work 4000+ hours a year and no overtime, and get zero days of paid vacation. My boss is a dick and makes me work even when I don't want to, and makes me pay for everything too. This fall he's making me pay for his daughters college tuition...fucking dick. It is apparently too much to ask for some PTO.

    his?
come to think of it, i don't think most of my construction buddies get "vacation", but they get time off when there is no work or the weather is bad.
in my line of work, vacation (pto) and sick pay, health and dental insurance and some life insurance are part of the offered "compensation package".
if you only have 4 employees it is much harder to give pto that way, but i think a decent boss would shutdown for a week or two and give everyone that time off paid.

Yes, but you are (or at least were at one time) sleeping with his wife.

This is of course only for “private” companies aka small business . If you’re publicly traded you can continue to fuck your employees as hard as you want. Just another way to destroy small business. Free 5 day vacations for all …. Yeah lots of small businesses can afford that. ??? WTF ??? while the big companies that can afford it don’t have to.
It’s simply another way to eliminate small business and get everyone suckling the government teet.

Yes, I am most certainly sleeping with his wife. Went to his kids soccer game this evening too. He's at least letting me call it a night early so I can make sure his kids get up in time for school in the morning since his wife is out of town.

You're missing the joke...which makes your comment funny to me.

    You're self employed/business owner. I got that.

My reply was tongue in cheek or serious, depending on your comment.

Some years ago I worked for a small business (20ish employees). The owner decided an HR department was needed. Hired a girl with a college degree in whatever with no practical experience. I sent her a note I would be out on the 1st of Maygust. She wander down to my office and asked why.

ME: "Oh, I didn't tell you?"

    HER: "No."

ME: "Must not be any of your business."

    HER: ----------------

I walked down to the owner's office and said I didn't think this was going to work out and gave notice. He ask me to stay and promised she would not bother me again. She did not, but tried the same with my techs. The HR department disappeared after the second tech threatened to quit.

If I'm taking time off, I'll notify them I will be absent. I'm not going to ask or wait for approval. If they think I'll skip a vacation because they "really, really need you that week", they'll find out just how fast I can pack my shit and leave.

As far as vacation, I can take all the time I want unpaid. I've given 2 days notice to leave for a week. Was told "have fun, see you when you get back". Think I even used paid vacation for that one.

Construction here. I get paid vacation. I'm never laid off, ever. Never go home when the weather is bad either because nothing would ever get done.
Insurance is the expensive one. Pay the same every month for insurance as what a week of paid vacation costs. If you only have 4 employees, it's way cheaper to give them a few weeks vacation than it is to provide insurance. None of the small guys can afford insurance.

Yeah that would be a two week notice for me too.

No one has ever asked me why I want time off, for as long as I can remember.
