I am torn between ANVIS 9 or RNVG housing for my first set of NODS. My budget is pretty much maxed out with the RNVG housing and quality tubes. The appeal to the RNVG housing is durability and available housings if something were to happen that wasn't fixable. The ANVIS 9 housings can be found for cheap, but they are more fragile and it's an aviation setup being repurposed for ground use. The nice part about the ANVIS housing is being able to utilize an external battery pack for longer use.

When it comes to mounts, is a ball and detent mount any greater than, equal to, or less than stable as a dovetail mounting system? When I think of a ball and detent mount, I think of something that's going to have some give and rattle around more than a direct dovetail mount to the housing.

Hey I'm gonna shoot you a PM.

I've used the 6's (almost same as 9's) and they are NOT durable whatsoever. The mount is kinda neat but not worth how fragile the thing is. I haven't used the RNVG's, but I'm in kinda the same boat as you are. I would avoid the 6's at almost all cost unless you will be extremely extremely careful, or if you have some sort of badass warranty.

You should be able to get a RNVG housing that can use a n external battery pack. Friend of mine just had a RNVGs built that run on CR123 battery and also run with an external battery pack.

Are you looking to build your own set or buy complete?
