I have worked on a lot of custom shop guns that have come through our shop. The quality of most of them is horrible for the price they get. Some of them are just flat out fucked up. I had to machine .035" out of a front base for a custom shop gun just to get the scope level. That's about 35 MOA looking up, not down. Custom shop quality is no better than the production line, you just get to order what you want for a very hefty price.
BTW, I currently own two 40Xs and a four of 700s. The rear base holes on one of my 40Xs are drilled about 25MOA to the left or the barrel is in crooked. It has a Unertl on it and most of my left wind is used up, but it shoots great. Custom shop quality.

Well I never claimed to be an expert on the matter so I guess I stand corrected. I did not know they were the same receivers. No matter, I love my 40X and I doubt I'd trade it for anything. It's only the second rifle I've owned as a civilian that performs as well as it does. The other was an SSG PIII MATCH that I bought from dlc356. Still kick myself for selling it!
