I had one of these rifles years ago and it was a tack driving machine. Hard times came and I had to sell it but always promised myself I would have another.

These rifles are Swedish 96 Mausers that were taken out of service and built into target configuration with new stocks and diopter sights. This one was rebuilt in 1975 and appears to have been fired very little. The bolt was professionally done. I may replace the weaver mounts with a Ken Farrel 20moa rail.

The scope is a IOR 10x42 that I picked up here at the Hide for $335. It's used but not abused. Rings are TPS low.

This particular rifle hasn't been bedded but I suspect I will do that soon.

I've got dies, brass and bullets on order. I can't wait to try it out.

Rifle, CG63 with excellent bore: $695 shipped, C&R eligible.
Scope: IOR 10x42 MP8 $335 shipped
Rings: TPS Low, used from here: $40 shipped.
I have a leather sling that cost about $15 or so if I can find it.

Total: $1070

Maybe it will shoot.

That is awesome.

I am in the process of getting my parts to build my 700 LA to 6.5x55. It will take 6 months or so to get it all so I can spread the budget out, but I can't wait.

Here is the main parts of my 6.5x55 project. The rifle is a Tikka T3 Varmint with set trigger and the scope is Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50. McMillan A5 with saddle cheek piece is in the bottom box. Still waiting some smaller parts to arrive/made. (bottom metal, mags, bolt knob etc..)

I also have a Carl Gustav in 6.5x55. The stock has been cut and free floated, but I´d like to find and replace it with the original military stock and sights.

Your´s is a very clean looking rifle, post a range report when you get to shoot it!

Some are 1/2 a minute. I'm not sure I'm half a minute capable.

Interested in your project. Should turn out to be a very unique piece. Can you post some details? Did you get McM stock by direct special order with the company? SOurce of the bottom metal and magazines? Thank you

I can never understand why this isn't more popular. There is a long history so it;'s well understood, 6.5 is sexy right now and it has a bigger case than the 260 so should have more energy.

thoughts?

I love my M38 but I just can't bring myself to drill/tap it for a scope. I guess I'll just keep it original since it's all matching and in great shape.

I got the McM from a Finnish dealer (www.finnaccuracy.com) They had it in stock. I just have to get it fitted/bedded.

I´m getting a CDI bottom metal as soon as they are available again. I´ve been emailing Jeff and he said they should be available again pretty soon. I guess I will order the AI mags also from CDI. Scope mounts are Sako/Tikka Optilock.

I´ll post more info and pics when it shoots.

I would keep it that way too.

The farthest has been 750 yards. I will have a chance this July to take it to 1000 and 1400 yards.

Re: Any 6.5x55 fans out there? (My budget rifle)

Unfortunately, I had to send the rifle back. I was getting ready for it's first range trip and noticed a problem with the bolt. There was a circular area measuring approximately 2mm that was eroded on the bolt face. So I sent the rifle back. I'm pretty bummed but that's the chance you take with older rifles.

Keep looking. CG63 shows up quite often in various gunsites

If you are open to other platforms, I saw several 6.5x55 sold recently at very decent prices:
- Tikka T3 - $525 - on this board
- Steyr SBS with wood stock - $700 - on gunbroker
- Winchester 700 NIB - $800 - on gunbroker

These are all excellent rifles. As "modern" rifles, they can withstand higher chamber pressure than a small ring Mauser dose such as Swede M96, therefore getting an edge over the new 6.5 calibers, if you reload
