Re: Any experience with the Steiner scopes yet?
I currently have the 4-16 model. I sold my IOR to help pay for it. The glass on my steiner mocked my IOR, compared side by side. Clarity, detail, color, low light and mid day everything on the glass area was a noticeable upgrade and I thought the IOR was great. Clicks are superb as is the tracking and so is the illumination. The zero stop is interesting. You don't set it, it is pre set and will work perfectly once you rezero your elevation knob. Someone else could probably describe how it works better than I, I'm terrible at writing out my thoughts.
I had the chance to compare it side by side to a S&B 4-16x50 and it doesn't loose anything to it. I felt the steiner had a better picture than the schmidt but that could/probably be due to the difference in the diopters set. The schmidts owner probably has 30 years on me.
This scope in my opinion rocks, and for the price its a steal. After zeroing out I have 17.7 mils of travel left out of 19.5, for a .308 that's huge. It has absolutely no tunneling, top end glass, more than enough travel for most any round and goes for $2300. If Steiner upgraded the 4-16 model to a 4-20 all else the same for just a small increase in price Schmidt would be hard pressed to sell their 3-20's at the asking price.
Personally I wouldn't look any farther since you get a top end scope for much less money.
