I have a B&C M-40 medalist stock id like to stipple up but im not exactly sure how its done, Ive watched many posts on youtube all showing a "better way" to do it, what is the best or the preferred way, i know that their may be 1 who likes it a way over the other. but you guys will know better than me guessing on the professionalism of a youtube video.

any video links would be most helpful.

Re: any help on stippling a stock?

Here is what I call "Tree Bark" pattern and it gives a great grip without being too roughe. If you want some help on something like this send me a PM and I will try to explain the best I can but sorry no video (Maybe something I should put together next time)

Re: any help on stippling a stock?

draw an outline of what you want done. Use soldering iron/ wood burner with whatever tip on it that gets the look you want, and go to town on it. Place it in just hard enough to melt the surface. keep doing it till you have filled your outline. then if its to rough take a file/ sandpaper to it to smooth edges to what you want.

chisel tips to make lines
point tips to make dots- bigger tips make coarser "grit"

Just get you a wood burning kit. One with multiple tips. Get a piece of plastic and try various patterns. That's how I learned to stipple. I actually practiced on a couple of pmags I had laying around.
