any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

Re: any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

Wideners = buy with confidence
LC brass = good to go

Havind said that LC brass is thicker than commercial stuff and you will have to adjust any pet loads accordingly. Also, if it is not marked LR, it was likely fired from a very generously chambered automatic weapon. This can often present challenges to re-sizing the brass and/or shortened brass life.

Nothing is without risk in this life.

Will work fine. You may need to run it through your sizer twice to knock it back the first time. Annealing the cases neck does wonders. Use a good lube and don't be shy with it.

It's all going to be machinegun fired brass. Don't expect a very long life out of it as machineguns usually are headspaced a bit long and this causes the brass to be over-streched. I can usualy get 3 firings out of it before I start seeing the casehead seperation issues starting.

Brass update. This stuff looks good ,you will have to tumble it I grabbed 10 wipped them off and checked them with
L.E. Wilson Gauge. They all fit no blown out cases.the length
was average 2.020 .

I have a batch of them : on my semiauto L1A1 FAL, they work better and are taking more abuse than high-priced .308 norma, lapua or hirtenbenger ( I simply stay away from mil-surplus italian or east-european cases)_ In my experience, the most effective task is the following : buy a cheap Lee .308 full sizer, cut away the portion of neck and shoulder,an deburr it; this way you have a very short die to screw on your reloading press, and being so short,is mandatory screwing it in opposite way from the traditional fashion(not from above down in the press, but from inside the press to up,if you can understand my very poor English text_ in this way you have a home-made shortened die to resize really ONLY THE BASE of the cases,if the cases are dimensionally abnormal, coming from machine-guns_
After this step, you can full resize the case, and in my L1A1 I resize them not more than .002"under his measured headspace, using in both the steps only a miracle-lube named Imperial Wax (Sinclair sell it)_
This way L.C. cases seems last forever, cycles as supposed, don't cost a bunch, and don't let you down_ My e-mail is at your disposal if you need clearer infos (as a sketch)_ Enjoy your L.C.!

Interesting idea. I cant say as I have heard of this before, but your concept makes sense.

Re: any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

really the first step ,for me,is the shortened full lee, after that redding body only/lee neck only/trimming,etc./forster br seater/lee factory crimp_test with a scope_ _has sense if you buy your first rifle, a mil-surp semiauto , not correctly revised before the sale to civilians_has sense after you see at work on mil-surp our (certified) butchers, treating others L1A1s as being AKs_has sense if you waste a zillion cases of various brands before suspecting a case can grow in lenght as in diameter, being a ignorant rookie,of course, among the local shootstand scientists_has sense when you pitt the bolt face reloading POS mil-surp nato (not L.C.)_has sense breaking decapping pins on undersized hirtenberger holes, after thousand profanities because hirt. inflates in your chamber _has sense when, nothwithstanding all,one morning your mil-surp put five holes in a inch at 100 on battle irons, and you know you are not a good shooter, therefore must be a decent rifle...and only you will work on it,buy some book and will try all...like wiley coyote, downs included,of course_

Sir, my only semiauto reloading stop to FALs, therefore I think the best answers on the argument of your interest can be in the book "Reloading for Competition",author Glenn Zediker_(Somewehre in the Hide forum you can find a discussion about it)_For sure,it will be some money well spent_

Re: any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

Wilecoyote sounds as if he's been there/done that. A lot of his info sounds like it's learned by experience.

I'll say that I've never had any problem sizing once-fired LC brass in one step with full-length or small base RCBS dies. Of course, I'm not trying to win any 1000 yd matches either. I don't know how many rds I've processed over the years, but it's no small sum. The Widener's brass should be GTG long as you're willing to do the prep.

My main beef with once-fired military brass is the crimped primer pockets etc. I usually try to buy my brass already processed from Scharch or Apex nowadays because I hate trimming and removing the crimp. Every couple of months or so I'll order another 500 rds of 7.62 or NEW LC 5.56 from Natchez. Maybe one day I'll have enough, if that can really be accomplished. From then on out I only have to trim maybe once and the RCBS X-dies take care of the trim problem.

Re: any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

sizing the brass not a problem, trimming in my giruad trimmer
cutting .025 off allot strech.not gonna buy this stuff again.

Re: any reviews on weidners Lake city 7.62x51 brass

I've ordered LC 5.56 brass from them a few times. There were some SAW fired brass and some WWC mixed in as well as a random reloaded LC case or two. Once fully sorted and proccessed it's great stuff. I do toss all uglies and any silver primer I see though.
