I see you’re from California and I’m not, I really can’t speak for what’s going on there, but I can tell you as a dealer that our cost of ammo has gone up anywhere from 25 to 40%, we could buy 6.5cm hornady match for 14-17 dollars a box, now our cost, when we can get it,mind you, is 22-25 dollars, popular firearms have gone up also, so yes there has been an increase, now whether or not it’s due to increased manufacturing cost or just supply and demand, I do not know. I’m guessing the answer lies somewhere in the middle, but like I’ve said on other posts, you can’t bitch about communism and capitalism in the same sentence.
There is far more surplus capacity to manufacture firearms than ammo. Anyone with a CNC mill and a lathe can start making guns if the market demands them. You need a lot of chemical type processes to make ammo. These cost a lot to set up. Investors hesitate to build that kind of capacity for intermittent demand.
Start saving up now. After Trump wins gun grabbers will unload their surplus at a steep discount and manufacturers that ramped up production will continue to contribute to a surplus that will drive prices down. It happened after Sandy Hook and history appears to be repeating itself. Just be patient and profit.

2. My product liability and general liability for 2021 is going up 4k per year.
3. My payroll is going up TBD for 2021 because supply going up.
4. My alloy cost is going up 1.3% for 2021.
AND I have not even released products to the market yet, lol.
GUESS WHAT???? Companies start implementing product price increases the last quarter of every single year to account for the upcoming years increase in cost of business.

Look I am frustrated and tired of high ammo prices. Its not a scam. People are idiots and buy WAAAAY more than they need (aka Hording).
But Hording is not illegal (until you get enough to corner the market--looking at you Hunt Brothers). Basically a bunch of idiots are buying all the ammo. No law against that. Nor should their be. Do you have to like it? Nope.
Ammo dealers have to pay the bills to--if they are only getting a few boxes of ammo--of course the price is gonna be high. Electricity and rent didn't go down. Property Tax is though the roof. Now they have to get by on less inventory, so price has to go up. Its a man-made crisis, but the solution is to just kill all the dumb people. Would you like to implement that solution? That's not quite a rational solution to my frustration with prices. It fact, it might seem a bit extreme. Maybe we should just learn that no one is gaurunteed happiness. Only the right of pursuit of it.

As far as i can tell, there is no DeBeers with a monopoly on the manufacture and sale of ammunition. Supply and demand is not a scam. It is a reality of life. If the price is high, don’t buy. That wasn’t intended to rhyme, but it does. When the price is low, and it will drop eventually, buy what you can afford. I have made a pact to buy a box of ammunition every time I walk into one of the local stores, conditional on it being available and reasonably priced- regardless of my current stock.

Has anyone noticed gun sales last 6-8 months? Lots of first time new gun owners, that is what's putting a big pull/drain on ammo supply. Had this discussion with employees of a LGS that I know well.

Seems you've stumbled upon an excellent business opportunity. Based on your logic start producing ammo at what you consider "reasonable" prices, meet market demand and you should have no problem securing a tidy profit. Maybe name your company "Socialist Munitions".

Nice small family run shop I used to go to closed two years ago. Ran by son that took it over from his dad and two coworkers were his early 20s sons.
Miss it, well outfitted for fishing, hunting, shooting - prices sucked but I still bought there on occasion.
Prices were based on economies of scale.
They died because a Cabelas opened about ten miles away.

If an ammo supplier makes 10x his normal monthly income during a supply and demand epidemic, and does so for 4 months in a row, is it the consumers responsibility that they mis managed that income to cover the following depression. Let me ask you this, since your all pro capitalistic non communists. If your let go from a job and can’t afford your bills who’s fault is that? Is it the governments job to bail you out? Nope, is it your families job to bail you out? Nope, is it your employers job to bail you out? Nope, so why is the consumer responsible for the price increase for shops that made a killing and then went flat?

I have some classes 6-8 months out that I want to buy some 175 FGMM, XM193 and .45 ACP ball for.

The ammunition makers are free to charge whatever they wish and the consumers are free to buy or not buy as they wish from several different producers.
The producers, sellers and other people in the supply chain are responsible to do what is in their own best interest, which usually is a balance of getting as much profit / income as they can, while not being too high priced that they don't sell enough.
Keep in mind government loving comrade, that this year corporations all over the world were operating under business crushing government orders as well as huge tax hikes, and even more crippling government regulations, so they are doing what they must to keep going.
You are welcome to buy from another producer/supplier
You are welcome to go setup your own factory to produce the goods and sell them at "a fair price"
You could also just save your brass, buy reloading components and make your own.
The "invisible hand" of the market determines "fair".
It provides the best for the most if allowed to operate unfettered.
If you are finding yourself unserved by the market you should reassess your life decisions and perhaps seek development that makes you suitable to participate.
